there is no easy way.

the fact is its a bitch of a job. I made my own tool last time I had to do them with the engine in the car and not removing the head

get a telescopic magnet. its such a life saver for the keepers.

both,

to put them back in you use the telescopic magnet as well as a flat head screw driver. its a real pain in the butt some times getting the second one in.

the way i would put them in is using a dab of grease and the telescopic magnet. The grease is enough to hold them upright while trying to allign them back in. my tools were. Valve spring compressor, telescopic magnet, needle nose pliers and grease.
I would sit the keepers in a bit of grease close to the position that they go in, then compress the spring and push the keepers accross closer into position. The grease is tacky enough to hold them againt the shaft while the retainer is decompressed to line up into position.
i hope that makes sense for you.
