Hey Guys,

My car is due for an 80,000km service. I just had a few questions:
-Would it be better to get it done at Hanny's (or some mechanic) or at a Honda Dealer (car is soon to be out of warranty)
-What is the general price for a 80,000km service, how much have you guys paid.
-Should i buy my own oil or trust them with the one that they use? If so, which oil is recommended and price.

I bought the car not long ago at 70,000km's and it was just serviced, so I haven't taken it myself to get serviced yet, so any information would be great.

Thanks

80,000km service will need a valve clearance check. You can bring your own oil, as long as it is within the viscosity spec.

My car is a 2004 euro std.

How much do you expect to pay for an 80,000km service.. ?

Do Hanny's use good oil.. ?

Hanny's will use whatever you want them to

Just ring around your local dealers and ask for a 'quote'. You'll be surprised at the variations in price.

A valve clearance check and major service are not cheap. I'd be expecting $400+

This is a multiple of the 40,000km service, so it is more than just a 10,000 service. If you don't wish to hijack, then don't. ;)

If your engine doesn't sound like a diesel when starting up and when cold, it should be ok.

my engine sounds like nut and bolts in empty tin after the valve clearance, and they insist the valve clearance is correct.

so only do it if you think the valve clearance is not right because if they did it wrongly you either wait another 40000km or you have to pay extra to get them fix it.

yeah i think ill leave it the way it is... besides, i dont want them scratching my red rocker cover!

i hate letting other people work on my car! especially honda!

yes because honda tech's are so incompetent

man even a 1st-2nd year apprentice can do tappet adjustments, it's not hard if u have been trained how to do it

they couldnt even work out how to take one box of cleaning gear out of my boot to check my spare on my 70,000km service...

not to mention they couldnt use my lock nut to undo my wheels and rotate my tyres... even my girlfriend can do that!!

i'm abont to take my car for a service at hanny's today. It's gonna cost me 280 bucks. They recommended i change the transmission oil at 80,000km's rather than 120000km's. Whats your opinion guys.. ? i'm sure they know best...

is this a decent price.. ?

I'd do it. I change mine every 1.5 years. I use 2 bottles and costs me $27.

My service has just been completed. Only took roughly 1 hour at Hanny's.

Here's the price list:

-Engine Oil $50
-Oil Filter $15
-Fuel Filter $52
-Gear Box fluid $40
-Brake Fluid $25
-Rear brakes $80
-Windscreen wipers $28

-Labour $150
============================
Total $440 (exc gst)
$484 (inc gst)

Car runs so much nicer and sounds more beastier now = P

Not sure if they did a valve clearance as some of you's had mentioned in this thread.

The guys at hanny's said that the Honda dealer that serviced my car previously didn't change the brake fluid last time and it was really dirty.......

This is my first service as I purchased the car at 70,000km's. It has been previously serviced by Trivett Honda.

Overall, i'm happy with the everything and Hanny seem to do a really good job.

My next service should only be $130 i've been told which i'm quite happy with.

Thanks for your advice guys.

it just proves my theory that honda use way too many incompetent apprentices... i dont like taking it there because of that...

It's not the apprentice that decides whether the brake fluid is changed. The tech/service advisor has to make that call. The apprentice can't just decide to change brake fluid on their own.
