View Full Version : Oil sump DENT
Got a dent in my oil sump thats been there for 2 years or more....i bought the car 2 years ago (dc2r) and the owner before hand had done it (i don't know how because he said he didn't know how)
Since ive put a stereo in it (custom fit) which i know is heavy and noticed the weight when i drove away with it (and that was about 1 year ago)...
Over the past couple months ive been noticing some sluggishness in the car...Originally i was thinking cos the stereo is weighing me down....but why should that stop vtec kicking in on occasions ???(not all the time)
Ive since replaced spark plugs and done a service on it and got a second opinion from a mechanic i know who deal with hondas who said the car does feel really heavy...
So im asking since before i put the stereo in the car seemed to run fine with the oil sump dint.....do i need to replace my oil sump?? and maybe get my codes checked and cleared should there b any!!!!
And should i rip out the deadening from my stereo (i know a crappy job) to loose a bit of weight??

depending on where the dent is, and how deep it is, there is potential for oil starvation, which would most certainly affect VTEC.
have you also checked the oil level? this is one of the most common causes of VTEC not engaging.
also, youre not revving the engine into VTEC range when cold are you?

i got a dent in my sump, never affected oil vtec at all. Also weight doen't affect vtec either. If sound system is weighing you, might need to invest in a lighter sound system? smaller box perhaps?
You can bang out the dent if you take your sump off, that's what i ended up doing anyway

The dent in length would be about 5cm mayb close to a cm deep at one point....its close to where the sump plug is
Oil level is fine and never Vtec while cold

A dent on ur sump should not affect it unless u have a less and u loose pressure.
Have you checked for any leaks.
I hit my sump a while ago n it cracked the cam seals n gasket on my DA9 but it was pretty heavy hit.

dents in sump affect oil pickup causing oil pressure to degrade. more so oil flow. your pressure will be there but it will spike between pressures.
have it fixed.

No it has no leaks
id just read some other threads that said dented sumps can cause affects to your power
but they didnt say how from what i was reading, and i wasnt sure if i am supposed to replace it??

What are the differences in getting a sump suited to the B18c that aren't the standard one from Honda, besides the name??

If you plan to track your car down the track get a baffled sump to ensure you do not get any oil starvation out of high g-force corners. If not just replace it with oem.
if you go thru the trouble of removing the sump off the car you might as well get a baffle plate welded in/install a new baffled sump eg mugen, spoon.
or...
get a panel beater to pull the dent out in situ, ie by welding those squiggly metal wire onto the sump and pull the dent out.
