View Full Version : Brake Master cylinder re-sleeve
Hey,
anyone familiar with re-sleeving an master cylinder with a new stainless or brass sleeve?
Also, is it possible to over bore and go from 15/16 to 1" cylinder when doing this?
Recommend any reliable places that can do this? Prices?
Nick.

if its possible any normal break place or even some engineering places should be able to do it without trouble

if you get it done at a brake place they will be able to re kit it as well,im getting mine all resleeved and kitted in my baja

Honda OEM parts.
The bills do start adding up, but 1" MC aren't availably cheaply.
Does anybody know if the shaft as seen here

is compatible between 1" MC and all others?
Any body have a dodgy/broken/cut in half 1"MC i can use to get measurements from?
I'll pay freight.

Any idea on prices and names of shops who can do it without farming out the work to
others?

Why not go for ITR booster and MC? there not that expensive if you shop around.
Pm me if you want a set.
initial pricing of the overbore has it being slightly more expensive than a second hand ITR MC + BB.
And that's having a 15/16" MC to start with.
Hmmm....

why go thru all the trouble when a 1' MC is available. You might save abit but is it worth all the trouble?

1' MC will set you back $100-$150?
> why do you want to change it anyway?
Going to 282mm rotors and ITR calipers.

Havn't seen them that cheap.
1" MC needs to have its own BB, because bolt mounting pattern is different.
Also, re-sleeving gives the confidence of an as-new master cylinder.
Lastly, hard lines seem to be different across different MCs.
It's another factor favouring a re-sleeve.
Of course the extra cost is not good.....
I made some quick and dirty measurements.
stock EK1.
7/8" MC, 30mm OD, 152mm long (front BB to end of casting).
Not sure where from.
15/16" MC 32.7mm OD, 142mm long (front of BB to end of casting).
So, the larger MC is shorter.....
Anybody able to quickly measure a 1" MC?
Anybody know if EK/EG/DC pedals are same geometry?
Some quick calculations:
7/8MC --> 22.225mm ID, 30mm OD.
Wall thickness = (30mm - 22.225mm) / 2 = 3.875 mm.
15/16MC --> 23.8125mm ID, 32.7mm OD.
Wall thickness = (32.7mm - 23.8125) / 2 = 4.444mm
1MC ????? Awaiting measurements.
--------------------------------------------------------
A 15/16MC with 1" overbore
15/16 -> 1" Hybrid. --> 25.4mm ID 32.7mm OD
Wall thickness = (32.7mm - 25.4mm) / 2 = 3.65mm
So a hybrid 15/16 -> 1" MC has a 3.65mm wall thickness which seems OK.
But to be sleeved, the bore has to be large than this.
Anybody know how thick the sleeves are?
...... this is getting out of hand quickly.
Nick.
Unfortunately this idea is gonna die.
Too many ifs and buts.
The machinist I took it too wanted to sell me a new MC.
It's gotta say something.
And I don't have the deep pockets to see it through.
