im currently looking into buying a JDM honda dc2r in melb.
the car has faulty air con, the owner doesn't know why.
also the driver and rear boot lock is faulty. which means when u insert the key , it's deadlocked, doesn't open. BUT! here's the trick....the key actually works on the passenger side door!
it's very suspicious. does anyone know this car? or would like to share some information?

is the key badly worn?

i dont understand. Most cars out there have something stupid about it.

BUT wait...not-working AC makes a car suspicious ?

i dun think the air con is suspicious...
but the doors are...
the key is not worn.
if it's worn, it wont work on the passaenger side anyway.

the trick is.
the key ONLY works on the passenger side.
i've provided a link to the car.

lol whats so sus about the car? does it have central locking? locks can stuff up if its not used for ages, the car starts with the key... major accident rarely causes just lock problems anyway alignment of body panels is important, but hey... it looks like a genuine 96 spec JDM itr from pictures....

if there a problems particularly in the front end, that could be a sign that it has been converted to a jdm fron end. maybe if you can see the vin tag on the radiator support, then you could tell if it is a real jap-spec. if anything, if you think that something is up with it then dont buy it cause chances are it could cost you more than you planned with all the "problems"

so... your thinking drivers door and boot lid have been replaced? or could be just the locks have been replaced due to thieves shoving a screwdriver in them? have you asked the owner why?

i already asked him,he doesnt know
he said the previous owner said it was deadlocked...to prevent theives..which is completely bullshit
why woudl u deadlock just the driver and boot?
but not the passenger?

the vin tag is blue in colour, on the drivers side on top of the radiator support. if it is a real jap-spec (jdm) then it will say something along the lines of, DC2R WITH some writing in Japanese. it could also say "type r".
as for your key problem, i too can not open the any of the doors L/R nor can i open my hatch. but then again i have an alarm, so i dont know if that could alter then key opening my doors. but im not phased, thats just me though

has anyone changed locks on their cars? OR fixed locks?
cos it really pisses me off.

my dad done it in his vk ages ago. just changed the locks with new ones and use a new key.

it sounds like the owner has farked the locks or thevies tried and farked the locks. speak to a locksmith and see if they can be replaced/repaired so you can still use the standard key. otherwise your going need a new set or locks and keys.

speak to a locksmith, they will most likely pont you in the right direction to get a new lock and they will re-barrel the hole to fit with your existing key so that you only need the one key to unlock the doors/boot and start the car.

they may even be able to fix the existing lock but just re-barrelling the lock. shouldn't cost too much you could also probably get away with buying second hand locks from a wrecker and then get that re-barrelled but check with the lock simth first
