maybe just turbo your existing engine.

if ur going to do a swap y not do a b-series swap then turbo that?

filip5

i would turbo the existing engine but it is a twin carburetor its not efi and b series just cost too much
i read that the d16 vtec is a decent engine it gives good results

so can i bolt on a turbo kit on the d16z6 or do i need to do some engine work first
how many psi can the engine handle without any work done to it

i love how people as how many psi the engine can handle. its not the psi u need to watch, it ths power u make out of that psi. different setups will make different powers on the same psi.

u can just bolt a kit right onto the stock engine, just need to watch the power out put. but to give u an idea engines on stock internals are running any where from 5 to 12 psi. i know i was running on stock internals 6 psi daily and 10 psi when i hit the magic button. but still if ur putting out over 250 hp atw's on stock internals u really gotta rethink the set up, most owners dont like to go over 200hp at the wheels without doing internal work (i said most some ppl like to live on the edge and have money to waste fixing and replacing shitz)

thanks aza that was very helpful i guess i'll go for about 200hp atw to start with. What size exhaust system would u recommend i got a 2 inch on right now should i keep it or go bigger?
does anyone know where i can get a good turbo kit anyone know a place in vic that makes them or any websites help is very appreciated :)

depends on ur setup, what parts u use, but no 2" is abit small, at least 2.5" is good, i went 3" on my setup.

200hp is a fair target in a sohc turbo, ha would be alot of fun though :)

filip5

thought 2 inch would be small
what engine r u runnin tell me a bit more details about your setup and how much did it cost to go turbo if u dont mind me askin :)

go to page 2 of forced induction theres like a 40 page thread of my build from start to when i sold my car. its called Operation Engine Makeover

just sell your car and get a fuel injected eg/ek
as u will be wasting your time and money doing a d series engine conversion
as u will have to source fuel tank/pump/lines, wiring, engine etc etc
do u know how much u wanna spend or are u going to pay as u go along?
do the research and see how far u wanna go and how much $$$ u wanna spend!!!

u do realise when i did my setup my D16Y8 conversion cost me under 1000$ ...

Agreed^

Mate if you had an allready EFI D16 Civic it would be well worth it. But since yours is carby you have all extra money / Time & Labour ontop of your turbo conversion. which would probably add up to more then a b16 conversion with more ****ing around, more time and more things that could go wrong.

The only way a D16 Turbo Is really worth it is if you have a EFI D16 Standard in your car, that is the sole purpose of a Turbo D. A Budge value setup.. doing a engine conversion + Extras + a turbo setup... isnt really budget value

so if you want more power either

A - Sell & buy a civic with a DOHC Vtec Engine
B - Sell & Buy a civic with a EFI D16 (Gli / Vti / SI)

Ps there is no such thing as a D16Z6 Engine... That is a USDM engine, the audm version is a d16y1 or d16y8

thanks for the correction d16y1/y8 it is
so is it really gonna cost more than a b series swap what is exactly the problem here

Depends its a very broad question... depends if you are paying people to doing absolutely everything or you are gonna do things yourself? + source parts yourself...

If it were strait drive in drive out for both

A D16y8 + EFI conversion + Fuel system upgrades + Complete Turbo Conversion
VS
B B16 Conversion

Probably A b16 Would be cheaper. Really man... EFI Eg Civics are cheap as chips these days... just sell your Carby and buy an EFI EG. Will give you a much better platform to start with and save you lots of time / effort / money

back to the start then i guess

nah mate just sell your Carby EG and then buy a EFI Eg... really wouldnt be that much more... compared to turning a Carby EG into and EFI Eg then turbocharging it.

yeh, the carby is not so good to start a turbo plan on. the pump, lines, tank, ecu, wiring, engine etc it might build up to be quite expensive, unless u can source ur own parts and do the job urself :) how bout buy that crx and turbo that thing :D once u boost that sucker, it'll fly

That's a bargain

All the cash I've spent on the same type of setup DAM!! lol

PS he should buy a VTI no matter what as its got all round disks  and you just have to upgrade your front brakes on the cheap...

filip5

Well no matter what you do its still going to be cheaper to buy a new Civic with EFI and better brakes..

Even after you do that convention then turbo it, your brakes won't handle that much power/stopping

Your car has only front disks (Small) and crap drum backs.

To upgrade yours to handle the extra power would be $1000 to $2000 before you even start, $1000 bucks if you can do the work your sell and find a bargain lol

Now if you've got $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ go for GOLD and give me some :p
