hey all. new to this s2k world. how much are diff to replace ? and what are my options. should i upgrade at the same time or just go for another diff from the later model?

could i change anything else on the car while i am replacing the diff to save on labor?

cheers

spoon 1.5 way lsd (rebadged Kaaz lsd) is approx $1500, or you could go the kaaz lsd which is cheaper and exactly the same as the spoon, from memory $1300 or so.

for labour charges you would be looking at approximately 1k including replacing all bearings and shims. Make sure you take it to a diff specialist, that knows how to set up all the oem specs of the diff such as backlash etc. Techsport in Bayswater set up mine, which he sent away to his diff specialist friend and i have had no problems with it for almost 1.5 years now.

most people replace the final drive while the diff is already out to a 4.44 or 4.77, whiteap1 and jko2 might be able to help you out on the FD as i know they have both changed theirs out before.

you will also notice that a clutch pack lsd is very aggressive, you will hear/feel is shuddering when taking low speed corners. However i found that the improvement in cornering is well worth it.

you will find that it is not worthwhile to find an oem honda diff as from memory they cost alot more than aftermarket clutch pack diffs and are not as durable. $3k+ approx.(correct me if im wrong)

It really depends on whats wrong with it. U can pick up a second hand diff in working order for about $500. If its really stuffed then yeah Kaaz diffs are easy to order in. Most of the time when the s2k diff dies its mainly the crown and pinion, not the centre, so again u can buy second hand or change ure FD. All comes down to the problem and ure budget.

great thx for the input guys.

so new diff (kaaz 1.5) or 2nd hand one
final drive

these are the only two things i could upgrade at the same time right?

whiteap1. how is your 4.77FD ? i have one on my EK however its 5 spd so it would different from yours. how do you find it on daily? what are your revs like at 100km/hr. and most importantly how much is it.

also with the LSD. the kaaz one is hydraulic ? or not, cos this car will be mostly for daily and i dont want it to wear out

The 4.77's are great for daily driving, at 100km revs are just under 4krpm and including all parts and labour just under $2K.
