View Full Version : Lacking torque at low-mid rpm

I'm satisfied with experience driving the Euro 6MT. The gear change is just very superb and nicely balanced. However the car don't have serious urge from standing start...feel so lack in torque low-mid range but mid-high feels strong. I feel that every Euro owners can see my point
I need to somewhat improve the low-mid range torque, is any CAI system or plug-in K&N filter in Euro standard airbox would improve the low-mid range? I don't want to change exhaust or headers or even putting any forced induction. Any suggestions? Thanks again

i think the comptech icebox improves low to mid torque if memory serves correctly. I think mugen airbox or anything along those lines should improve low end torque slightly.

If you're serious go for the jtune extreme.
...or at least the mild flash with a good cai.
The problem with off the line it's a big gap with a low 1st gear and a high 2nd.
I find you lose momentum and by the time your in 2nd the revs are too low to have any urge. Try doing a straight shift from 1st to 2nd and you will notice a big difference in acceleration off the line.
Granny changes make less difference to other gear changes.

what car are you comparing it to?

Be careful which intake you get, some increase power at high revs but decrease power at low revs. But then again, you probably wont notice any difference. The stock intake is tuned quite well..

Anyone have any experience with a K&N filter, the one that drops into the standard airbox? Is it worthwhile getting? Can get one on ebay for $89.

I've been used to driving 6's and V8's with more torque.

I understand where you're coming from given my previous car (forced induction 6 cylinder) was churning out some 400nm of torque at around the 2000rpm mark. I agree the Euro only begins to pull with a bit of force in the mid-high end range. But of course it drives beautifully anyway.
I too don't want to go down the path of headers and exhaust as I just love the quietness of the Euro. My solution to improve the Euro's low-mid range torque is:
A. Comptech Icebox (quietest intake which provides the most low down torque)
B. Hondata mild reflash
Good luck getting your hands on an Icebox though...

Thanks...I would look into Comptech Icebox first. How much does it cost? Where can I get it from?

It's an NA engine. You can't expect it to have full torque at low RPM. If you want to free up more torque, get a lightweight flywheel. An intake is not going to do much.

Agreed.I also like how quiet the Euro is.I'll also get the Jtune reflash and instead of the icebox i'll probably get a drop in K&N filter.

I have 1 and didn't notice any difference to be honest. Maybe some but that's more likely to having a clean filter vs a dirty OEM 1.

I've just obtained a quote from Comptech (directly) for the Icebox. $169 USD doesn't sound too bad at all. However you might want to prepare yourself for the cost of shipping..... $178.58 USD
There must be another place to get the Icebox from without such a shipping expense...

I reckon my 05 6sp manual euro with Fujita Intake and topspeed header has a bit more torque in the 3000-5500 rpm range. Based on my scientific buttoscope readings. :)
When i get my mild reflash ill be sweet as!
