Any FN2 owners managed to change the bulb that shines on the number plate? Got some white LED's I wanna use! Can't seem to get the plastic cover off soo not sure if that's meant to be removed or if I have to take off the boot lining etc

Any insight much appreciated!

Where did you get the white LEDs?

And post some pics when you've got them working :)

off eBay! 12v 1w 6LED white. Installed the 1LED ones on the inside (festoon + 2 for map lights), and they're bright as, makes it look alot better.

Now need the finishing touch for the number plate but can't for the life of me work it out.

Have you seen the number plate lights on the new Lexus IS250?

They look hot! Are they LED? If not what are they?

For the number plate light, is a 1 LED light enough, or do I need those with more than one LED on each light?

youll need two LED bulbs.. you can replace them by accessing the two panels on the interior side of the rear door. the manual also mentions how to replace if i recall correctly.

ill take a picture of mine tomorrow when i get a chance. If you replace the existing bulbs with a 1watt LED theyll look exactly like those on a Lexus IS250 :)

Yes a pic would be helpful, thanks.

Are these suitable?

Probably a regular white coloured bulb. You can buy them from any auto parts store. Narva sells them, look for the small bulbs with light blue glass.

RTFM.

take off the two covers on the rear boot lid using a flathead screwdriver and then replace the two bulbs that are closest to the middle on each side. the connectors twist out.

Still rather confused at the huge range of LED bulbs available... I am after a set for my number plate lights and headlight parkers. I don't want them to be ridiculously bright, but at the same time I don't want them too dim either. Just common sense brightness if you know what I mean.

How are these two types different? Which of these would be more suitable for my needs?

First link, they wont be bright enough...

Second link, just right...

Youll realise soon enough with 194 bulbs there is no such thing as too bright

I wrote a while ago with the other thread asking how long these LEDs will last.
I know LED lasts many times more than incandescent bulbs because it doesnt actually heat up the filament.

But this place (http://www.ledshoponline.com/led_faq.htm) says they could dim or fail prematurely due to the current or voltage in the car.

QUOTE:
"LED bulbs are infinitely more susceptible to current and voltage spikes due to their low start-up demand.
Low battery voltages can cause heat buildup due to increased resistance and high voltages can cause the LED to overdrive risking premature failure or dimming."

what do you think of this?

Its true for me.. I have changed my LED parker bulbs so many times that I'm now using normal T10 bulbs.. In my case, they usualy start to flicker after about 1 month of use & fail in about one week after that.

How do the LED lights in some latest luxury cars last then? Even the Jazz comes with LED taillights. Do these have some sort of resistor built in to give a steady 12v or something?

What about these compared to the "just right" ones you quoted above?

These are just multi LED units. They wont be as bright as stock, just white.

Personally ive had bad experiences with these types, Each unit usually has 5 LED's and they eventually start to fail one by one. When one starts to flicker the car looks stupid.

the 1watt SMT bulbs are generally more reliable and better quality due to the technology. Ive run a set for my brake lights and DRL's for 2 years in my FD sport, transferred them over to my FN2R and they havent given me any trouble.

You need to take the boot lining off, any of the LEDs suggested will do the job. That guy on Ebay is good. i replace all my exterior and interior lights with LEDs which were all supplyed by Warren_jp on ebay.

WHat do you mean by the boot lining?
