Since installing Toda Headers & HIGH FLOW CAT on my car the engine light has been coming on once a week to two weeks!
The first two times it came on, I took it to HONDA, they said the error was coming from the cat sensor.
Before you say it, the wires to the sensor have been extended to suit the high flow cat.
The car doesn’t run any different when the light is on?
I’m just thinking because these came off a DC5R.
Could the emission too the type R & type S maybe different?
Therefore maybe needing a more restrictive CAT?
Any thoughts, suggestion or experiences with this issue.
Just before I go and lash out on a new CAT:thumbdwn:

I have read that if the 2 sensors are too close, you will throw a CEL. Maybe ask Adrian to see if he has a solution..

Thanks for your reply:wave:
I believe the sensors are in the right position, defiantly not to close.
Obviously not too many people have come across this problem:(

Most of the time this is happening to any DC5R or Dc5 type S with aftermarket header - high flow cat set up , Just get Hondata KPRO to sort it up

i got CEL after a few mths of running with TODA headers. my mates said that sometimes if u change to aftermarket headers/exhaust the o2 sensors may need to get replaced after due to the high flow and excess carbon.

luckily i had a kpro and it picked up the error code. i checked the service manual for the error code and it was a secondary o2 sensor failure. so just ended up swapping the o2 sensor. so find out from honda what the error code was or get urself a kpro (borrow/buy one).

good luck, hopefully its not an o2 sensor as they are pretty pricey from honda!

I’ve been told by HONDA the error is coming from the CAT sensor.
What sort of o2 sensor did you end up swapping it with?
There is no doubt that all that extra carbon has set of the engine light.
I’m not too familiar with KPRO, defiantly a noob at that:confused:
I might just put in a standard CAT for now, until I can educate myself a bit more in this area:o

Thanks for all the replys:thumbsup:

first you need to know the error code. either by honda giving you the error code the ecu produced. or you borrow a kpro or buy one. it will then tell you what error code.

secondly, you will need to get a copy of the service manual. you can get one from hondata.com.au i think once ur a registered member.

then you just match the error code to the service manual and it will tell you what o2 sensor is faulty. mine was the secondary o2 sensor (closer to the cat) and i just got an OEM replacement. very expensive!

i know this may sound like noob question but what is a "CEL"

I was thinking of getting headers for my S, but i want to do my research first b4 get the headers

Check Engine Light :)

Just for example, if i was running a race header without the cat. Would the CEL go off? Would not running a cat cause any other problems.

If you run a race header without a CAT, 90% the CEL will come on, if not sooner, it's later. There are ways to get past this without actually going for an aftermarket ECU, one of them is to get an O2 simulator (try ebay)

The CEL light will not go off, it might come on, disappear for a while and come on again. Proper way is of course to go for hondata.

It would not cause any problems except for the CEL light on your meter. The noise level on your exhaust has subtle differences (e.g. slightly louder) but it's really not noticable IMHO. But beware, if you get caught by EPA running without a CAT, you will be fined by per cylinder. I really don't recommend running without a CAT as a few horses gained by De-CAT is not worth the fine unless yours is a race car.

Just get a CAT and weld it onto your header, be kind to the environment.

Guys just to let you all know, it’s the high flow cat make CEL come on.
Installing a standard cat will fix this or after market ECU.
Thanks for all the replies:thumbsup:
