How tough is it?

im registering another car under my and it was previously classified as a writeoff in NSW. vicroads require an inspection.

i have just done the RWC and things needed fixing have been fixed and RWC is approved.

what do vicroads check exactly? similiar to RWC ?

the panel on the car isn't perfect. they are some dents etc. does that matter?

cheers

they prety much just chek obvious things like, engine number, vin number, ride height, check if oil or fluids are leaking etc. They wont worry much about dents, but make sure you dont like a bar half hanging off and the car is looking half decent.

I got my coupe registered, and went thru the pits, he didnt even look in the car, mind you i have a complete orange interior. Main thing was engine number, vin number and cheked ride height with a plank of wood

BTW, when i was there, i saw a blue EK4 go thru the pits also, with stripped interior, swaybars, loud exhaust, lowered. he just went in and out, easy as that, lol

lol? which pit was this? im goin to burwood. the car already went through the Pits in NSW and that was passed with no problems. so yeah i think NSW is more stricted than VIC?

btw your car. it has a buddyclub body kit on it right? i think i seen it few times at Elite Auto Care in resivour?

Hey there, I had my car instpected at Burwood in June, its easy. I pulled into the bay, the guy bought out my form that you fill in for rego, they'll ask you to pop the bonnet, then they check that your VIN matches that on the form and whatever other paperwork, and thats it. The inspection lasted no more than two minutes.

Do you still need an inspection if the car has N.S.W rego still on it? Do you get to keep the rego?
Also if the car has a new different engine in it is it still ok, got all engineers papers.

i was told if your car's VIN number is on the National Database (not your state database) it means your car is either stolen, written off and repaired , or something missing in the paper work? and you would require an inspection by a higher authority ? anyone know wats the deal?

Vicroads just want to make sure the Vin matches the Engine number.

Get a REVS cert from NSW if you arent sure.

I did that when i bought a VTiR from NSW. Bought a revs cert, that checked out. Vicroads just want to make sure the VIN/Eng# are all matching before they formally enter the car into the VIC database.

The Revs cert from NSW will be able to tell you if the car has been stolen/written off etc etc.

hey man i hope this helps,

i got my car registered last month.

my car was originally from nsw too. It was in a accident but wasnt recorded as a write off,

best option i can give u is to call rta, n give them the car engine n vin number. Apparently victoria is gettin tight with laws n sayin that if the chassis is damaged then the car is pretty much useless unless u get it fixed from a properly n is tested n passes a certificate. A revs check is what u will need as stated before.

I think it depends on what sort of write off it was, chassis damage or anything else.

as far as it goes for them checkin d car, i did mine around d south east area and they only checked vin n chassis number, dats it. NOTHING else at all.

GOod luck to you.

do they go through all the parts and labour receipts and look to make sure all the damage has been properly fixed under their standards?

Fo55il

depends on what is on d system, If it is chassis damage then you will most likley need a certificate to state that it has been repaired properly and my a certified repairer. They are not going to other checking for little details. then again that would depend on the person who checks it.

sorry i just assumed it was NSW.

Call the relevante WA road and traffic authority and they will be able to provide you with that certificate.

and once i get that cert. what do i do? show it to vicroad? would i still need a inspection?

my current ek was purchased from perth and i had no rev cert nor inspection done by vicroad. just a rwc in vic, letter of ownership and money....easy

EK4R

well registering the car is not the problem

i am just a little worried about the inspection by a higher authority because the car is under the National Database...:S

i wonder how tough they are...

getting that certificate will authenticate that the Vin and Eng # are matching, which is all vicroads want to check.

nah man u dun need dat certificate, if u call them they can verify that the vin n engine number r registered to the same vehicle. u dun need dat certificate, unless u really want. Because it will be on d database anywyas.

if it was a write off and the chassis was damaged n that is recorded then u will need a certificate that it was repaired properly by a quilified repairer.

What i did was call them n made sure it wasnt on the system as that.

So what i would recommend u do, is to call rta/revs n get them to check on the system what it is under ie Repairable writeoff/ writeoff etc.

then call vicroads n ask them what documents u will require to register the vehicle.

na i alraedy called up vicroad. they say they need a inspection. i got my rwc today and bits n pieces. so its just a simple inspection i m not fussed now after reading the replies here.

just worried about my other car, which might require an inspection by a higher authority because the VIN number is in the National database

all cars need an inspection before getting registered! NO matter what, unless its a re registering, but since ure gettin it from another state, they need to be inspected, But its nto a hardcorse inspection.

But im not sure what u mean bu higher authority cause its in d national database? All cars are in the national database im pretty sure, any states authority can kno where a car is from, where it originated, what engine n chassis are from what car.

It doesnt matter where the car is from, it just matters what sort of writeoff it is, Some require certificates, almost like engineer certificates to prove that they are safe to put back on the road.

na .

every state's car is in the state database. so vic cars are inthe VicRoad Database. these datebase are shared amongst the states. However they is another database called the National Database. which has list of all cars that are either written off, repaired, smashed, stolen, paper work missing etc.

and if ur vehicle is in that list, then you are required for an inspection by a special inspector (that wat i was told exactly on the phone to vicRoads)

anyone got a clue on this kinda of inspection?

The vicroads test really is just like, check the vin and engine numbers against the sheet. I went 30 minutes out of my way to Doncaster, then back to Burwood in morning peak hour just to pick up my spare tyre from the shop because I thought they checked that. Turns out you don't need a spare for the inspection.

Also, if its worth anything, I'm fairly sure my car was written off, or at least deemed a repairable writeoff.. It was bought from the salvage auction at Fowles by the guy who I bought it off. They checked nothing.

since your car was written off so you will need a Certificate of Roadworthiness (RWC) and Vehicle Identity Validation certificate (VIV)!

you need to make an appointment for the Vehicle Identity Validation certificate (VIV) ... call vicroads ask them

A VIV inspection costs $440 and a cancellation fee of $66 applies

Goodluck and hope this can help:)

lol. u all getting this confused up with which car i am talking about. nevermind. think il start a new topic to clarify things. anyways the car will be in for inspection next week. and its not ViV. i would know. cos both of my cars atm in my garage are purchased from interestate.

Fo55il
09-11-2007, 08:19 PM
if the car is already registered then u wont have any problems.

but if its registered in another state then im not sure how it would work.

but i think we are confused, Can u clarify?

EK4R
09-11-2007, 10:10 PM
car A : from nsw. registered. will be under inspection next week. it was previously a write off thus i needed the inspection. nothing to worry about i just go tthe RWC .

car B : from another state. registered. however VIN number comes up in the National Database. which means it requires an inspection by a specialist (according to vicroad)

now my question is anyone know anything about this kind of inspection from a specialist or higher authority ? i have never heard of it.

i had my inspection done, he looked at my ride height as my car is lowered, looked in my window for a moment and checked under my hood... all clear...

missed the race wheel and the bucket seat...
