hey all,

i was thinking of buying this, its a small compact, sleek and sexy, light weight so it doesn't weigh my car down.. puts out a fair amount of power for the price... its really good quality amp.. or so i think..

i like to run my things at 4 ohms or 2 ohms(ideal) .. i never run it at 1 ohm.. thats just pointless as amp looses damping factor.. therefore amp = dead after a few weeks..

i like my music tight and crisp, not into HUGE amounts of bass( ie no port, or slot port box).. sub will be in a sealed box.. more into quality :)

the alpine PDX-1.600
Mono Power Density Digital Amplifier - RRP $699

dude at shop said he would give it to me for $520.

rated at 600rms.. birth sheet says 754 rms.. pretty decent..

my friend said i should look at maybe sound stream.. but i think their new products are terrible compared to the old series.

tbh i wouldn't touch n e thing from places such as JB hifi .. so don't suggest anything along the lines of sony, cadience, autobarn etc...

please give me suggestions, discuss, or feel free to tell me some pro's and cons of this amp :) :)

other options would be something like RF.. boston acustics..

thanks yo!

a pdx 1.600 for $520, other 'mid-ranged' brand monoblocks are gonna find that hard to beat... especially if you want a monoblock thats smaller than a pdx...

what sub/s is it going to run??

the main benefit of the pdx is its tiny footprint, weight isnt really much of an issue as most amps with that output only weigh a few kilos. seems like a good deal on that amp in particular tho, the pdx's are very nice and that would seem to suit ur application quite well. the only thing to be wary of would be the thd specs but im using a pdx atm for a sq application and i dont have any issues :)

other brands such as audiosystem and audison may also be worth a look but i don't know if ull be able to match that price.

b.a, audiosystem, soundstream, DD, audison and other brands of that quality dont have monoblocks that can match/beat $520.

audisons entry-level monoblock RRP's at $700+
cheapest RF monoblock RRP's at $500, but thats "only" 300 @ 4ohm, 600 @ 2ohm... id rather have a pdx over this anyway.

how much power do u really NEED?? im guessing not 500+, or the pdx's 754, if you're not looking for 'HUGE amounts of bass'.

edit: DD's MB2 RRP's at $480, 500 @4ohm, 700 @ 2

yeah, im only looking to put out around 500 - 600 rms.. nothing to blow my brains out but nothing too soft i cant feel a beat.. if u know what i mean.. im not into soundoffs and all that, although they are cool.. im just looking to put that UMPFH in my music.. atm i have a schinder amp running 600 rms though 2 channels prob at 4 ohms.. running a punch p3 in a sealed box.. p3 is rated at 600 rms too.. but my amp is getting old and protection light turns on when i want it to pump.... so i need a new one to replace it..

the srx1 has an rrp of $700 which is actually the same as the alpine, there is probably some leeway in the prices of the other products as well but as i said that does seem to be a very good deal on that amp in particular :)

and even if you are not after a lot of bass, headway with ur amp is never a bad thing. as much clean power as you can afford is always preferable but again the birthsheet of that amp seems to suggest it would be adequate for most sq subs.

yup agree with everything. headroom is desirable in any case. the point i was trying to get across is you dont need 1000 rms if all u need is around 300ish for things to get damn loud, for a daily car.
