I'm looking into getting a motorbike for a daily instead of a crap $300 bomb while my car goes under the knife and has it's guts removed.
So I'm looking for something cheapish and reliable as I've never owned or even touched a bike before I'd like some feedback from anyone on the forum that has obtained and used bikes as a daily. Cheers. I'm looking at getting my L's this week and says I gotta hold it for 3 consecutive months.
Cheers

you gotta hold our L's for 3 months before you can get your P's, but you have a total of 6 months of L's before you have to go get your P's otherwise your L's expires...

Hope you can make sense of that LOL

Get something reliable, sounds like for your budget your not going to get anyhting flash anyways, go for a traily, or a CB250, even a GN250, both good reliable cheap workhorses

as long as it gets me from point A to B with no drama's I ain't fussed, they easy to work on? Never touched one but couldn't be that hard yeah?

does it look at least half decent? I'm opting for something that looks alright hence the reason I'm not going for a scooter. Anyways I read through the vicroad motorbike licencing requirements for L's and seems there's a piratical assessment which is what I'm worried about (never rode a bike before) anyone know of cheap instructors round mitcham/box hill area?

cheers, I'm just looking for a cheap one so I can upgrade to a better one after I get my license + 12 months to remove the capacity restrictions. And I work in the city so bike > car in terms of parking and won't be getting stuck in traffic

i got a bike today, best thing ever. atm need new clutch and brakes. beware OWNING A BIKE ISNT AS CHEAP AS EVERYONE MAKES IT. dont forget ur gear money and ur servicing money too :P

shadou
14-11-2007, 08:56 PM
ohh gear yeah I've been looking at these sweet ass helmets with reflective visors and so fkin sweet but probably like $400 lol. Servicing I'll most likely do myself as I've got all the tools and knowledge from my car days, how hard can it be ? (plus I got a mate into dirt bikes)
As for gear what's the requirements? helmet with ADR approval that's the bare minimum or do you need the jacket, gloves, ect to be able to ride?

nvmee

i spent 500 bux on a "decent helmet". yeh ima gona service my bike too just like u said the knowledge is from owning a car.dont need anyhting but a helmet, but i strongly advise u to get gloves and a jacket. gloves 100 bux jacket from 600 for a leather one

AND INSURANCE, cant afford to have ur bike stolen

shadou

yeah true that, is rego and insurance cheaper for bikes? Should be yeah? Hey where abouts do you live? Nobody seems to have answered my question on bike instructors and the vicroad accredited ones are too far for me.

yeah but I live in Melbourne, theft around here isn't that bad, plus it'll be parked more than likely along bourke street with all the other bikes. Anyone know if the brand Hyosung is any good? they look alright but sounds like some chinese brand :s and I'm iffy on chinese made anything

lol its a brand new bike, wat can go wrong? isnt it about 8k :/
anyways i wouldnt get it personally, ive heard its like a hyundai equivalent. in saying that u wouldnt have to worry about the carbies being tuned, fork seals, old clutches/brakes, wear and tear etc

ive got a 99 cbr 250rr, great bikes, no problems watsoever. but then i got it a decent price cos it was a mates old one

just looking for a cheapie atm, but probably if I get it I'll enjoy it so much I'll just have to upgrade to the CBR600, wouldn't mind the CBR1000RR fireblade either :p but too much

nvmee

shadou

lol, I'll look around after I'm 6 months into my L's, hopefully 2nd hand ones will be under $8k by that time.

i rode my mates r6. ..... the 250s are shameful lol. if i was to do it again id get a 600 for the extra 1k -2k
ohg and the r6 is fuel injected :P ..no choke

but my 250 doesnt require choke cos its recently been tuned

its korean,
mate had the gt250, he gutted it. sounded alright. but had no power whatsoever.
if u want reliable. just a zzr250 or a gpx250 they are pretty cheap, n almost bulletprooof, alot of couriers use them as a work bike. .

bikes the best thing ! when i ride my car around n by myself. i feel guilty.

nvmee
17-11-2007, 08:36 AM
yeh, personally i think any 250s are not that fast. but like turbice said, zzr250 or gpx250s are bang for buck, the only reason i didnt get them was because it didnt appeal to me which is the case with most people.

6am rides are not cool, ur balls tend to freeze. but in all seriousness if ur seeking something new, no doubt the bike licence is the way to go ^^
