 Hey ppls, im relatively new to this place and my new 5th Gen and thought id make my first thread about the 1st thing id like to do to my car...
AIR INTAKES and EXHAUST -
K so in a hto4s issue (last 1 i think) i read an article that stated pretty much that if u try to create more horsepower out of a VTEC by means of air intake or exhaust systems, u wont actualy make a gain because its tuned so specifically to honda... Rather u might lose some hp... considering i dont have a VTEC i was wondering if any1 could tell me
a - Is this actually tru, is it really that hard to tune VTECs ne better than they are and...
b - Would it be easier to get power out of a SI and if so what is recommended..
Any help will be sweet guys

Not true.

There are definitely gains to be made.
10-20kW can be gained on extractors alone.
Jump on preludeaustralia.com There are a lot of guys there that can help you with more specific info.

Yes the Honda stuff is good, but it can be better.

Congrats on the new car.

hey im from PA extractors alone, id really doubt 10-20kw atw would be achieved unless it was tuned with I/E especially for an Si. this would still be pretty hard for a vtir also unless ur using 1 of the expensive brands where the extractors cost over 1k. i was just talkin bout the normal average xforce 4-2-1 extractors. hope that helps.

a) wot do u mean by tuning vtecs any better? as is obtaining more kw atw? or adjusting the vtec engagement point? As far as i understand 5.2k where vtec kicks in stock is the best point for it to engage so theres no point in changing the engagement point. however with i/e/h plus a tune with a vafc II a kw increase will be approx from 110kwatw stock - approx 130kwatw maybe more or less as every dyno is different. (this is for the vtir model as si is non vtec i think)
b) easier to get power out of the si? i honestly dont know which motor the 5th gen si uses but ill have a guess sum1 correct me if im wrong. if u got the h23 it'll be better if u turbo it. ill go have a check on PA for u and see wot motor the 5th si runs.

Another member from PA.... Woot... If you put on intake and an exaust you would definatly feel the pickup in the responsivness of the car... not to mention some definate KW :D

lol probly like 5-7kw atw not much, but its something also need a high flow cat, their pretty cheap like 150-200 roughly and better responce

You really need these mods so your car can breathe a lot better! like omg... my low end torque/power is just horrendous at this stage. ordered a high-flow cat and a full cat back system already. soon after, that when i've got enough i'm prob gon get meself some headers. doesn't matter if it's an x-force. hopefully after that it'll feel much better. dunno when im gonna tune it though.

^ like what charles aka sxc-b4k said above, if you've got a h23a... you should turbo it as it can take more pounding when you increase the boost :) and there is also a difference in compression if i'm not mistaken.

True this is for the H22A Vtec engine. The SI will probably not see these gains.
http://www.preludeaustralia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23162

SMSP headers 127kW atw (yes they are expensive). Previous power with Mugen headers on the same car 107kW atw. Stock engine is around the 100kW atw ballpark.
There is another H22A on PA running Xforce headers Simota CAI Pipe,
Apexi Power Intake filter, 65mm TB and a VAFCII tuned and getting around the 118kW atw.

ok sorry i couldn;t be bothered reading da other comments becuase im lazy
so if i repeat sum1 sorry

of course u can make pletny of power from a non vtec or vtec engine.. u can always start off with a turbo kit or a nos kit.. easy.. more power from a honda engine :)

ok-
exhaust technically will gain u more if u open it up more-- just by changing ur muffler u can improve on some power.. u seen da size of the stock 5th gen vtir muffler its bigger than a 6 month baby=

ok-- opening up airways like in a human will also improve airflow-- if it is restricted.. the body needs to work harder so under the pump its not able to work to its full potential...same as a car :)

there is a few headers out there which can do quite well. just need to find wat is right for your car-
exhausts can work really well. again find wats right for your car-

IF u had a high peformance honda-- you can always replace with MUGEN, SPOON etc parts which clearly make a difference.

-- ok i cbf typing anymore :)
