View Full Version : Central Locking issue

Hey guys, just looking to get some help.

I'm having some issues with my central locking.
When ever i press the unlock or lock button on the keyremote, my driver's side door refuses to move from its current state.

So if its locked, it will stay locked. If its open, it will stay open, but all the other doors will work as per usual.

I had just installed HID's that day. I turned my head lights on to have a look at them. Then i forgot to turn them off. I came back to the car with a flat battery. The key remote would not work. So i had to use to key to access the lever to the bonnet.

Jump started it and off i went. Only when i parked my car i realised it didnt lock/open with the remote.

So i am forced to open my drivers side door manually.

Hellllppp meee... its annoying.

You jump started your car from another car, jump pack or replaced it with a full battery then put your one back in? I think jump starting a car with so much electronics can be harmful to your circuitry. I have always replace my battery with a full one then re-connect my flat one and go drive for 30mins.

Do your hazard lights flash when you press lock? does the lock even move a little bit? Try holding down the button for 3 seconds? not sure really, but I am having troubles with my central locking too, it takes me 2 presses to make it work.

I would say that its just a coincidence that you did the Hid's that day and you had a flat battery, but i would say that the door lock acuator (it's part of the driver lock assy) has failed but will need testing, you wouldn't have damged it buy jump starting you car.pm if you need one i'll help you out if i can.

i jump started it using a jumper pack.
Im having the thoughts any problems could have occured when i opened the door manually.

At first the hazards didnt flash at all..
then i used the key manually, and after that they started working.

Yes, if i recall correctly the lock knob does move a tiny bit.

Well if it seems to be lock acuator like you said HondaTechy, i should be right to go back to my dealer and get it fixed under warrenty.

thanks for replies.

but any more info would be great.

you can't damage your door lock actuator from jump starting... that old tale about not being able to jump start new cars with electronics is bullshit... when you connect a second battery in parralell (ie: jumper cables to another car) all you do is add their AHr rating... voltage doesnt change, theres no spike, nothing... its exactly the same as putting a bigger battery in! :)

to me it sounds like the actuator has died... try listening to the driver door when u unlock/lock it.. if you can hear it "clicking" then a push rod might havew slipped/snapped... if you can hear grinding, the gearing has gone... if you can hear nothing, its either burnt out, or not connected (has come loose)

It sounds like door actuator issue. I had the same issue except that it happened on passenger side door. Not sure if that was caused by jump starting the car. Mine just happened out of the blue.

Because my car was still under warranty then, the dealers replaced the actuator free of charge. Ask your dealer.

same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. both actuators died at the same time. except my lock sliders in the civic are actually broken so i had to climb out the window as i couldnt get the bloody lock to turn while i was in the car haha

In the Manual, they even teach you how to jump start, so jump starting is okay.

I have just got this problem. the passenger lock has died, altho it does unlock and lock sometimes.. its like the gearing has worn out. Gonna take it to the dealers to get fixed as I still have warranty.

You're not alone. My driver's door lock actuator is getting sluggish.

After noticing the sluggishness of the driver's door lock, today it decided not to lock after i got out of the car. Had to press lock and unlock few times then can see it activate/deactivate quicker but that is not the solution. It's just gonna go back to it's sluggishness.

By reading the replies, i believe it could also be the actuator. Has anyone bought and replaced the actuator and if so how much? Dealer warranty expired so getting warranty work done is out.

Ok, I had this same problem, It was the actuator.

I have no idea how much a brand new one was but I paid for one second hand.

Try these guys they were able to hook me up with one, not sure about the price though but i remember it being less than half of what a brand new one costs.

It where i take my car for service as well, top quality all the time and specialise in honda's.

If this doesnt work, your best just ringing around for a jap scrap shop or something like that, i think there are a few out near bankstown/padstow way.

Thanks for the info iizii but too bad I don't live in Vic. I'll give them a call anyway and find out and also try anyone here in Perth.

Oops I meant Sydney. Don't know why i was thinking of Vic. That's good coz I can get a friend to buy it for me if i can't get it here for a good price.

i think i'm now having a similar issue in my '96 Integra, where the passengers door doesn't unlock when i press on the remote. Only problem is that its an aftermarket ming immobiliser/central locking kit i believe, not an OEM one.

Anyone know where to get another actuator in Brisbane?

Cheers in advance

go to Jaycar Electronics... you can get either master actuator ($14.95) or slave actuator ($9.95) from there... master is used if theres a key overide, so when you unlock it with the key all doors open... slave is just for a door with no key (usually back doors, or most passenger doors)

don't need it anymore, simply took the drivers side door trim off and tightened up the screws where the actuator powers the door release/lock part and it works a charm now.

Thanks for the reply but

New in here and new to Honda
Wife has just bought an 01 Civic Vi hatch
Except for the rear offside passenger and the hatch which will work by keyless or putting the key in the lock The drivers door will only work manually.
The hatch and the rear pax door open pressing the keyless hatch button:(
What a mess

er ..sorry edited to say should i post this in Civic threads?
