I've just lost all my settings for my car speaker/sub setup

Can anyone recommend some settings, im not sure about all the different frequencies and where they should lie.

Note: Pioneer deck/settings:

Fronts: *** hz and above? (for midrange etc.) (and how far forward the stage should be, goes all the way upto +25)

Rears: *** hz and above? (for midrange etc.)

Subwoofer: 200hz or 100hz and below? (what this setting should this be)

Other:
B.B.E. (on or off)
BMX Compression (on or off)

Thanks,

all depends on the speakers/sub , amps, and staging requirements... but generally for the speakers, start from 50-65Hz up and use the sub for anything below that..

ok so if hertz are ok, what about db/octave drop off's.. what the fluck do you set them at usually?

i was doing some googling and found maybe this a rough guide, does this sound about right?

Fronts: 100-120 hz w/ 12-18db slope/octave (or start low at 80hz then raise till sweet, no more than 150-200 or you lose mid-bass snap)

Rears: as above basically but w/ sound stage further up front

Subwoofer: 63hz w/ 12db slope and increasing the slope reducess mid-bass which draws your ear to the rear which is good to keep the image up front.

well, my setup is 50Hz with 12db slope for the fronts, 63Hz with 12db slope at the back and 50Hz out phase with 16db slope for my sub... the rest is fine tuning with time alignment and EQ settings.. please note that without a proper sound deadening in the front doors, these settings don't mean squat, also pumping 50Hz in a non deadened door will rattle the panels like crazy...

If you want more mid bass, try 63-80Hz for the sub, but I reckon the sub becomes more 'dirty' in a way if you know what I mean... try to complement the freq range between speakers rather than trying to emphasize on certain freq...

The settings you give above will miss out the 63-100Hz range... not completely but you'll hear the difference if you try full freq range from all speakers. Also the bass staging will be off to the rears by doing so. You should 'feel' the sub, not hear it.. all the sound should come from the fronts..

thanks for your help and advice, i will try adjust similar to what you have listed.. at the moment I think the door speakers are sounding almost there but the sub im not happy with, as you describe it does sound 'dirty'.

also.. if my amp has the cut off freq's set then is adjusting it thru the HU sort of confusing and overlapping things?

just set the amp on full range and let the HU handles the freq cutting, but you can try setting it the same as the HU settings and check the result.. I know I did it with my setup just for fine tuning... but yeah, I put it on full range for initial setup...

yeah i kind of want to leave the amp settings as they were (so I can try to get it how it sounded before i lost all settings).

The bass sounds like shite still, did some tinkering.. im lost, might have to take it somewhere and get someone else to tune it for me.

the bass sounds all loose and off time in some particular songs..

Yeah I noticed that but I definitely know that wasn't switched on before.

Thanks for your ideas though, it sounds almost there - sort of (will never be the same as before - hard lesson learnt RECORD YOUR AUDIO SETTINGS!!)..

Just need to get the sub just that slight bit more accurate/'tight' sounding.
