hey guys, if any of you have got a spare $90 or so lying around and you want to buy something worthwhile for your car, i highly recommend the KLS 12mm 7core spark plug wires (i got mine from 999 Automotive). The difference is really noticable. before i got them, my car would idle at around 900-1100rpm, but with the new spark wires it idles at around 500rpm, even as low as 300rpm. The throttle response is also very noticeable, as is the improved fuel consumption. im also assuming because there is better spark you would probably get an extra 0.5wkw haha. but i reccomend the wires over a panel filter any day. just my 2 cents

I might give it a try... is this for new civic FDs aswell?

No need.
Your spark would be fine on your new car and you have coil packs anyway, you dont have spark plug leads like this other persons..

yeah anything after an ek generally uses coil packs instead

wtf?

ditto thats ****ed up.

normal warm idle is 800rpm.. anything less would be rough....

wtf?

yeah i was really surprised it almost sounds as if the car has turned off. great way to save fuel at the lights :) but its a much cleaner idle, and you can notice it throughout the rev range

my idle sit at around 500 aswell, sometimes drops to 300 when i first start car (when its already warm) but i dun find any problem ... but then again maybe cos ive never had my car idle at 800 bfore so it mite actually be better haha, how to fix anyone ? :p and i need new leads anyway so i might do some research on them. thx

Your car should not be idling below specification - usually 700-800rpm.

Anything below the specified idle speed and the motor is almost laboring (struggling to keep itself running / close to stalling - constantly) not good for the motor.

I'd suggest adjusting your idle to the specified rev speed - asap.

LOL, you serious about these leads making a difference?

How could new leads make you idle at 300?
Some thing is wrong there i think...

I suspect the next $100 could go towards calibrating ones tacho.

best mod for free, weight reduction.

I remember a Hot 4s article where they stripped 80kgs from their S14. I think it ran 0.4 quicker 1/4 mile times.

Spark plugs leads won't get you that.

leads don't give you power. they recover lost power from ****ed leads.

new leads should be at or less than 2.5k ohm per foot.... 5k ohm or more and your losing spark/combustion efficiency. (last time i measured the brand new set of NGKs, measured cylinder 4 lead at just under 2k ohm.)

the only benefit multi-core leads have is longevity of conductivity from uprated ignition systems.

i find it very hard to believe that a lead is a bottleneck in the ignition system in a stock car that it provides some sort of performance, even resposne... thicker leads dont work like a fatter exhaust pipe either... chances are your leads were rooted, i guarantee if you get any other leads it would have felt the same.

Either that or it's the placebo effect.... kinda like installing a hiclone.

BUT.... the only set of leads in the market that will give you dyno proven power gains (not much though) and real noticable response are the Nology ones. Because of the way it charges/discharges... it doesn't last long. A few mwmbers i've read about reported resistance growing past 8k ohm within a year.. which is unfeasible considering the ~US$200 price tag

yeh sounds at bit suss....

i had a problem with my old car and it was doing that and i worked it out to be the OXY sensor....

leads are leads

u can get pretty ones.

but idly normal 700-800

on cold endine 1100-1200

nething lower.. dont no. i wouldnt want that and i'd b suspicous to why it would be lower?

Best mod for $100 or less is to get toys and stick them all over your front and rear dash :p . Or go buy $100 worth of stickers and slap them all over the car
Cant really do much with $100. The cheapest mod i have would probably be a reservoir cover which was about $25.
Or maybe buy some grounding cables or something from PIVOT range (spark earth or ignition earth)?

Yea, i was kinda thinking when i made my first post, hes talking shit...
Unless something is wrong with his car...

When installing your leads you didn't manage to unbolt your distributor and turn it at all, did you? ...Changing your timing.

leads don't do much at all. Especially at idle.
The only time you see leads give any advantage is at high load or high RPM when you have a weaker spark under load. Even then they do nominal benefits. All they do is enable to spark to get across. If your leads are good then, you will not notice a diff.

my mod for under $100 would be panel replacement K&N filter or short shifter.
give you alittle more responsiveness that you WILL feel

I remember when I swopped my leads in a previous car for Nology wires, my ignition timing was 10 degrees off.
That might explain the change in idle rpm.

mmmk... maybe i was too harsh on the OP and I do try everything myself at least once....

I ended up getting the VISION multi-core leads which are similar... was originally gonna go into the mrs DC4 as it was ~$80 WITH 4 ngk iridium plugs but decided to try it on mine....

my arse don't lie to me... i can definitely feel an improvement ni response/torque.. kinda hard to distinguish when there isn't much of a gain.. point is there is one.... but then again i have an aftermarket coil with iridiums gapped at 1.7mm

***EDIT***
this is the set.. i love this shop... it was worth it just for the plugs alone... think of the leads as FREE:
