Hi, maybe it's a dumb question. but just wondering for DC5R, does the changing of air intake make the v-tec sound louder? if yes, is it the intake pipe or coz of the filter? cheers

Yes, it will make it louder.
It is mainly due to the fact that you no longer have an airbox to resonate and muffle the intake sound, though the level of airflow plays a part too!

For example, i have a k&n replcaement element in mine, (still original airbox) and it did noticeably change the throttle sound when i installed it too!!

yes it would, though you would get a louder note if you remove the air intake resonator. u could lose power though by removing the air box, but if your after noise then go right ahead man.

yeah. i am after the v-tec noise.... so i should change the whole thing including the pipe? and it seems to me they are quite pricey compare to last time when i changed the filter for my s15.....

A CAI will make your car defect worthy. I've had a decibel meter on my car before and at 5900rpm the intake was 101db. Well over the RTA legal limit.

If you just want sound, get a 45 degree 3 inch bend from your local exhaust shop. Get it slightly flared to fit to the intake rubber and a bracket if you wish. Put cheap $20 air filter pod on it and if you really want to buy a $15shield to cover it from the cops.

Plenty of change for lunch from $100. :)

Never put cheap air filters man, they not good at keeping dust from entering the engine and so can ruin ya engine after a long while (year or 2).

There are a few CAIs for DC5R, plenty of threads out there for ya to search. Main ones are; Injen, Mugen, GruppM and even J's Racing.

Agreed,

I think for $20 or so most people can afford to change it twice a year but thats besides the point.

The guy wanted some vtec noise and I made a suggestion. CAI, mugen etc dont make that much of a noise.

I would suggest the Gruppem, but I figured that most people would not and do not want to pay $1000 for a intake.

SRI's are cheap and effective IMHO. Especially if you want the noise.

Peace out

Dude, the Injen CAI is a screamer. Much louder than any airbox setup.

I've got a K&N Typhoon at home, and honestly, the SRI screams like no tomorow. Crossover is definately alot more aggressive than the Injen.

Dude getting a cold air intake will definately make the car louder but only when u floor it. I had a cai on my celica and it definately made the car sound awsome when hitting lift.
I bought an exact ebay replica of the AEM cai for $100 shipped instead of paying $450.
GET A CAI!!! you will love the sound!

Not sure what this would cost landed in Aus, but i'm keen to see how it compares with the likes of gruppe-m / mugen. Anyone want to foot the bill for a comparison :p

the website says 102,900 Yen which would be well over a 1k AUD!

you'd be better off with a tune i think...

this thing looks pretty cool too... if only the battery didnt have to be relocated...

Each to there own  An intake wont yeild a massive increase, but it does help when used in the right combination of parts (i/h/e) + tune. and "Personally" i'm a sucka for the sound of 8000+rpm outa of an NA motor. M3 CSL anyone? hehe :p
