Hey guys, i went to a car audio store yesterday looking into buying an Alpine Type S component speakers, i was about to pay for it and then i saw they had a pile of another component speakers on special in the middle of the store. They had Alpine Type E component speakers for $129.

Are the Type E component speakers worth the $129? or should i just go for the Type S? the guy who helped me also said that the only difference is the RMS and if i don't listen to full loud music, the Type E would be excellent for me. but even if i did buy it and replace my stock speakers with them, it would sound heaps better wouldnt it?

for a start, the guy u talked to clearly has little idea about car audio if he judges speakers only by rms ratings. i havent sampled the type e's but they are the bottom of the range alpine so i would not expect them to be as good as the type s. the only real way to find which ones you like best are to listen to both and decide for yourself, the whole 'you wont notice it if you dont turn it up' stuff is just really dodgy marketing.

in any case, i would not be expecting a vast improvement over stock, especially for the type e's, and would wonder if it might be a better idea to save a bit more for a better product :)

vinnie, you'd be surprised how some cheap speakers like type-e correctly installed can sound :) now if you havent heard them dont ask someone to spend more money on other speakers he wont hear either hahahaha

maybe ive just set my standards too high, i didnt like the sound of the type x's either :p

and i know some cheap speakers can sound good if done properly but, although i dont know for certain about the civic in question, some stock systems in new cars actually dont sound bad and i would only be considering upgrading if it was going to be a very noticable difference. intallation and sound deadening could end up costing as much as the actual speakers as well depending on where u get it done.

as long as you're happy, but maybe you're installer didnt do the right thing with your install (know that card that comes with them? it needs to be applied to the tuning too), but i know many a happy person who owns type-x speakers and yes the 3rd gen type-r are pretty nice for the money, first 2 gens were more for noise than nice...

you cant be saying that one of the worlds best speaker manufacturer i.e. vifa/scan speak dont know what they are doing as type-x is built by them, not sure of current gen thou...

so i'm guessing i shouldn't get the type e's. i'll have a look for the type r's then, seems like its pretty good for the price

i think your referring to to the first gen type x's. They were made in denmark. The 2nd generation which i had were made in china.

while i found them to have amazing mid bass and clarity, personally i found them artificial sounding... each to their own i guess.

dmarc,
your original post doesnt indicate if you'll be amping the spilts. if that's the case, you really wouldnt notice much difference between type e and s.
If you plan to amp them in the future, get the type R's... you wont feel like upgrading soon after

PS... amp them...makes all the difference!
