BC site says theres no ned to upgrade to their springs and retainers..
Any one had experience using these cams with stock honda valve springs and retainers..

hi locote, from wat these ppl told me b4, As long as you upgrade cams, it is always recommended to upgrade the valve springs as at high rpm, it will be more stable and safer to rev high. Not sure about exact details though

Even my CTR cams in B16a, many people in US forums say dun nid valve springs while others recommend, however, thats CTR cams, which is not as aggressive as ur BC cams.

IMO, BC cams would definitely need to run the whole BC valve train pacakge.

hey man i putting a set of these cams in my type r and ive been told by dyno dave there is no need to replace valve and retainers

valves and retainers maybe not, but the springs may need to be replaced.

It depends on how much extra lift there would be over you stock cams and what your current springs can handle. But you don't want to overspring either, that'll also cause issues.
Can you post the specs of the cam you're looking at buying?

Stock cams
INTAKE lift - 10.6 mm,duration - 230 @1mm
EXHAUST lift - 9.4mm, duration - 227@1mm

BC spec3
INTAKE lift - 11.2 mm, duration 250 @1mm
EXHAUST lift - 11.5mm, duration 245 @1mm

Spec 3's are BC's drop in camshafts. They are not much bigger than stock & don't make power past 8500rpm.
- low lift = no need for springs...
- Rpm range - same as stock, again, no need for springs...
If you're looking for a camshaft that requires the use of valve springs & makes power higher in the rev range, you'll need to choose a different profile.

Im not planning on revving past 8500...
8200 8300...
I think these cams will deliver power to..
Which is great for me as im only running 10.6:1 C/R

They seem lot bigger than current one sin the motor at least so i should get a good gain once they are tuned with skunk2 manifold...

WE dropped a set of BC spec3 in a P72 head with ITR valve springs/retainers. This is in a b20/vtec reving to 8200rpm and there fine.

Yep, been revving to 8000 with no probs.

It may not NEED the upgrade, but would there be much more power in doing it?

The springs/retainers in my head are P72(SiR-G)
I motor has been revved to 8500 before( by accident)
but usually 8100 8200 is the max if i hold on to the gears for longer...

valve spring/ retainers got nothing to do with power. Yours is safe ;)

If you run CTR cams you'll need to upgrade at least the exhaust valve springs in your B16A head because they are only single (8200 limit).
So while you're doing the exhaust valve springs may as well do the intake as well. Min upgrade is ITR/CTR valve springs and retainers for 8800 RPM limit. They handle the extra lift without coil binding.
