XR5 cost like 48k drive away, full spec with sun roof, drive pretty well and comes with 6spd manual. Shifter is not as good as euro. Steering is not that direct or feels as nice well compare to Euro but maybe thats because I too used to the Euro)

Its pretty powerful, 2.5 turbo, 5 cilinder 20V, pretty powerful and very spacious, plus the boot is very huge. Comes with a keyless push start button/system.

Pwn those XR6 and XR8 when it comes to built quality.

Really sexy car, as seen in Casino Royale.

So the question is, will you get this or the Lux Euro.

Mondeo is a nice car. european style. Great power than Euro. But we cant compare with 4 years old Euro version. And turbo charged car will cost more insurance.

Is Mondeo made here or overseas? If it made here, :thumbdwn:.

I think it's made overseas, since they brought the Mondeo in to try to compete for the middle car segment. I think.

I could be wrong though.

but man is the Mondeo a good looking car from Ford.

It's only $400 more in insurance over a $42000 2007 Euro Lux.

im not really a fan of the interior on the mondeo, the middle section of the dash is really flat & large!

a review i read a few weeks ago made them sound like they were alright but nothing overally special!

wouldnt mind test driving one though
im sure they go alright :)

The hatch is 4778mm long, and the sedan a whopping 4844mm, and it weighs in at over 1500kg.

IMHO that is way too big for the medium car segment.

The sedan is longer than the Aurion.

The XR5 Turbo weights in at nearly 1620.... just test drive it yesterday... not really that fast anyway... probably due to its weight.

The nice salesman (Parramata) says its fully imported from Belgium, and it comes with good tires, (Continental SC2) unlike the Euro crapy rubbers.

From this site, they say its from the Australia arm.... so I wonder where its made.....

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/211216/ford_mondeo.html

The wraps have come off the hottest Mondeo ever! Auto Express has the first pictures that every fast Ford fan has been waiting for.

Feast your eyes on the XR5 Turbo, which points the way to a top-of-the-range ST version of the latest family model. Made by the blue oval’s Australian arm, it debuted at this week’s Sydney Motor Show and draws inspiration from the car driven by actor Daniel Craig in the James Bond film, Casino Royale.

The XR5 Turbo name won’t come to the UK; instead, the model is set to wear Ford’s ST badge here. And there is even potential for a diesel version.

As with the Mondeo 2.5 T, the XR5 uses a 217bhp 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, giving a 0-62mph sprint time of 7.3 seconds and a 151mph top speed. It also has a bodykit with mesh grilles, new foglights and side skirts. At the rear, there is a diffuser-style bumper, twin chrome exhausts and a bootlid spoiler.

Chunky 18-inch alloy wheels finish off the package, while the new model also features Ford’s adaptive dampers and lowered sports suspension.

The XR5 provides a glimpse of a UK-spec Mondeo ST – a car Ford is refusing to rule out. “The technology is there, but it would be more viable to do a diesel ST,” explained a spokesman.

“In Europe, the market for a large petrol-engined car with a non-premium badge and relatively high CO2 emissions is limited, so an oil-burner would probably be the way forward.”

Ford has access to two performance diesel units: the 2.2-litre four-cylinder, which delivers 173bhp, and the 206bhp 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6. Both were created in conjunction with PSA Peugeot Citroen. There is scope to develop the firm’s own TDCi range, too.

Regardless of the powerplant, an ST is unlikely to arrive before 2009. But buyers who want the XR5 Turbo look can order the bodykit via Ford’s new ‘Individual’ range.

Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the visual enhancements are also available on the S-MAX people carrier, and include 20-inch alloys.

Meanwhile, when Ford’s Kuga SUV arrives next May, it will come initially with diesel power only. The 4x4 gets a 136bhp 2.0-litre TDCi engine, and Zetec or Titanium trims. Prices start at just over £20,000. Towards the end of 2008, the firm’s 2.5-litre five-cylinder petrol turbo will join the range.

The Mondeo is made in Belgium. The XR5 model is Aus-spec. You don't get the XR4, XR5, XR6 or XR8 in other countries. What autoexpress saying is that their equivalent, the ST will be similar to the XR5.

Not until after 2009. Even then, if they still sell a "Mondeo" here, it will never become the Falcon. If they want to do that, they will have to first kill off the Mondeo name here and then in the next model year, call it the Falcon instead. Since this year is the first year for the Mondeo, I say you are bullshitting.

I personally dont really like the new mondeo design.

I dunno abt everyone else, but i dont like the steering wheel design of most Fords, they are too squarish for my liking!!

I believe the rumour/theory was that the Mondeo (or similar mid-size car) might be manufactured alongside the Falcon in the Ford plant given the trend away from large cars and towards mid-sizers -- to keep Ford's Australian manufacturing plant viable.

I love the XR5, think the build quality, price and value are fantastic!
I would buy one over the euro anyday atm.

but...

ill wait for new euro next year! im sure it will but the mondeo back in its place!

It's great for a family with 3 grown up kids (or 5 adults). I find that the Euro is more of a 4 seater if you have 4 adults. Not really comfortable with 3 adults in the rear.

The thing about this Mondeo XR5, is that people shouldn't be mistaken that it is a fast car. In addition to the extra power, it has extra weight. So in the end, it is a larger car but no quicker.

New vs New? Not even a contest, Euro is a 4 year old car, Mondeo is a new model. The Euro looks good for its age but the Mondeo makes it look like a low browed caveman.

Euro's advantage is that you can get a used Lux in good condition for under $30k.

LOL! Even the new Mondeo doesn't look as good as new 4-year old design Euro. Currently, the only cars that look good to me are the EVO X, GTR, R8, S5 and Aurion ZR6 with the front lip spoiler.

Well that's a matter of opinion. I wouldn't call Mondeo great looking, its average looking in a Mazda 6 sort of way, but the shapes of the Mondeo are far more modern than the Euro.

EVO X, R8 and Aurion are all ugly to me. R8 in particular is an obnoxious design.

looks... would u buy a car coz it looks more modern than the other? or would u buy the better looking one in general even if its been on the market for 4 yrs?

Not everybody wants a bigger car. Manufacturers should be realising this by now given that many private buyers aren't buying the traditional "large car" anymore.

Given that we now have a Gen 2 CRV (and will probably always have something like this now -- I used to pooh-pooh softroaders a bit, but I just love the car), when I change my Euro for something else (not for a long time), I will probably go for something slightly smaller again.

Most buyers tend to move up to bigger things (or certainly used to before petrol price increases). I find myself moving the other way, back to smaller, sporty and fun (with a tough of luxury). Must be my age... :)

But the Mondeo is not a large car, it's a true mid size car in every way. The Euro has the bulk of a mid size car but the space of a small-mid car, it's no larger inside than the Civic.

Tobster

I'm not saying the Mondeo is a large car, it was merely an example of how increases in size within a segment eventually turns people away. I was merely responding to the comment that the room in the Mondeo kills the Euro.

According to the stats on both cars (e.g., http://www.drive.com.au/buy/new/keyAdvantages.asp?guid=E6BB397D67C54E3CA45D710F38E 4972C&screen=brochure&category=advantages&addvehicle=752612720071011&searchString= ) the Mondeo is 103 mm longer and 126 mm wider than the Euro. It SHOULD be bigger inside.

My comment is that not everyone wants a bigger car, but that the majority of manufacturers (but not always) increase the size of each replacement model.

The fact that the Mondeo is bigger than the Euro, even in the so-called mid-size sector (despite the fact that they're the same size or bigger than some older "large" cars), for me is a negative. My preferences are towards the smaller end of mid-size or the large end of small! (If that makes sense!)

someone correct me if im wrong, but i though the mondeo and the mazda 6 has teh same chasis and possibly drive train, engine different etc but mazda is owned by ford now, the pics of the new 6 sports look nice but the pics i saw of the motor show arent that good maybe it was a standard one,

but yeh im with you i have wouldnt be able to buy a ford, until reliability and fit finish improves. the BA was a big leap compared to the crappy au etc but still a long way off what a similar priced jap car has got. we'll see now Ba's still not performing my old boss had a xr6t 2003, and it had heaps of probs.

There is no new MPS 6 Mazda. It's never been a big seller in Aus and the MPS 3 has taken sales away from it. If they ever bring in a new one, it'll be 2010, but I wouldn't hold my breath according to reports.
