hi

My friend told me that my rpm is not stable, as when i start and warm up the engine, the rpm will go up to 1.5~2k rpm and stop at about
1k rpm, and after a while it will drop down to abt 700-900 rpm....

Is it normal? I am driving a 92 Civic sedan EG8, is a double cam carby.

Thanks

It's normal, the ECU is programmed to warm up the car as soon as possible for emission purposes...

On a lighter note, the Lambo Diablo starts up at 2500RPM...... :D

I think this is normal.Mine does the same things. It never does exactly the same thing. It's 200rpm either way...
What you should do if you haven't done it is clean the Throttle body and all the sensors on it with carby cleaner. If it's never been done it makes a really noticeable difference.A must do.

I just got my car not long ago, so not sure whether the previous owner ever do that. Can i clean the throttle body myself or have to find someone to do it?

I don't think he cleans the sensors though. All you do is unsrew/take off the sensors on the TB clean them with carby cleaner then just put them back on.Easy :)

thats normal mate.
1500rpms perfect for warming the cold engine up, then it should die to just below 1000 during normal operation. your idle speeds perfect aslong as the engine doesnt shudder (usually 700rpm is great).
abnormal would be an erratic idle (jumping up and down regularly) or say 3000rpm idle like my friends old integra... hehehe

Second this,

1500rpm is the automatic choke for warm up. Generally 700 - 800rpm is normal for idle. As the previous post says be concerned if idle is pulsing of jumping haphazardly.

700-1000 is generally the threshold depending how cool your car stays. If it's stock then 700-900 is perfect. As above, if it's hunting between 800-1500rpm then theres a slight chance that either your TB gasket is gone, MAP sensor is gone or it's the IACV (thing on the intake side with a black knob at the top) that needs a good cleaning.
