ok well ive been considering and looking into doing a b16 or b18c swap recently (ofcourse when i have the money)

im just curious how many people have done it (into a civic) and what kind of fuel milleage they are getting :D

are you looking to do an engine swap just for the milage??

fuel mileage , in any car is directly related to your RIGHT foot.

nope...

at this stage i get around 500+k's a tank (and that includes fun drives)

yeah well with vtec you burn fuel pretty fast if your always in it.

But if you drive normally with vtect every second time i get about 450km with 35-40ltres. The only prob is it only runs on PULP or better. I only run 98octane in mine

I don't think fuel efficiency should be a huge contributing factor when deciding if to do an engine conversion or not, as with Honda you will usely get more power to fuel consumed than any other performance car on the market, if you are worried about fuel consumption i wouldn't recommend doing a conversion at all.

but topically you should expect about
450k's to 40 ltrs with a B16A driven sedately
400k's to 40 ltrs with a B18C driven sedately

lighter chassis = better economy (for a conversion)

but of course, it comes down to your right foot.

FUEL CONSUMPTION ISNT A FACTOR FOR ME GETTING A SWAP

im just curious :D as to how far fuel is going for people who have done the swap :o

Limbo: thanks for the advise on petrol :D

yellow-dc2: thank you for answering the question

tRipitaka: already in the stages of stripping out intereor to save weight :D

mate if its not a ****in factor then why are you asking?

We aren't idiots here... and if you want serious answers then dont treat people like it... we are trying to answer your question based on the criteria you have given, in the absence of ANY criteria other than what fuel mileage people are getting, you are NOT going to get any answer other than being based on the mileage...

To answer your question, i had to fill my ITR today at 320 kms.... but i dont drive my car much, so i dont really give a shit how much i spend on fuel or what economy i get... doesnt mean i am redlining every gear though... i just dont worry about giving it gas

in a lighter shell, you wont use as much fuel... good luck in your quest, and when you finally get your conversion done in 1 or two years, let us know how your mileage goes

end rant...

end rant...This guy just wants to know what kind of fuel consumption people with engine swaps are getting, is that a crime? haven't you ever been curious in your life time? Just because it isn't an influential factor to his conversion decision, in my opinion, doesn't mean he can't ask about it.

SHOGUNOVDDRK, I am looking at engine swaps in the future and was also curious about fuel consumption, now I don't have to ask, thanks! :D

b16b if push hard----350km full tank , normal will be 400+
my friend's had a b18 will be 300 km push hard, normal will be 350+
"+"means depends on city/highway type driving

fair call, HOWEVER, any consideration of performance (in this case his choices are performance vtec engines, not some shitty non-vtec sohc) you should never even worry or be curious about fuel mileage

if mileage is desired, then get the engine then get it tuned for economy

but to add my half a cent value to the thread, i get about ~300Km per ~40l of 98oct and ~350Km per ~40l of United Petrol 98oct (10% ethanol). My B16A2 spends 30% of it's life in vtec or above 5000rpm

Much appreciated opinion/info

all in all i figured id ask this question for many reasons...one because i figured id get some mixed statics...everyone drives differently and imo you cant trust everything you read on a brochure

My father is also considering buying a civic (either EF or a E-AT) to do this swap (his first car project) so figured seeing as we both wanted to know why not just ask (saves wasting thread space)

I for the matter am not worried about fuel economy as if/when i do the swap i will probably buy another 86 civic fix that up for a daily/when im broke/parts car

just filled up this morning cost me around 40 bucks so i cant complain...

petrol lasted me 512k's (and i went to wisemans ferry twice) so lets see how we go this time :D

Thank you all for sharing you opinions and thoughts on fuel economy for these engines

Wow i didn't know there were so many rich guys here that don't give a crap about fuel economy... maybe you should rotaries and let me know how much it costs to get to the city & back... i know that's something i'm always conscious of with the petrol prices. But if you do a conversion you do have to expect higher fuel economy.

friend of mine has a FC.....he only gets around 250 maybe 350k's out of a full tank if he is really nice and lucky

lol - perhaps these days we can label the people with rotories the guys with money :P Probably spend the worth of my car per year in fuel :)

Anyway the fuel consumption will not change if you keep your car off hi cam (IE normal driving) but if you want to VTEC places then you will notice a hike in consumption. So , its relative to your RIGHT foot :)
The cost of more power is more fuel y0

actually he spent the cars worth twice in a year in fuel (we did the math last tax time)
