Hi guys,
im new to this..
im currently considering buying my first car.. either an ek1 or ek4...
can anyone tell me whats the difference between an ek1 and ek4 in terms of exterior, interior and engine besides ek4 is an VTIR. thanks...
help is much appreciated..

engine ek1
- sohc no vtec (slower)
- ek1 CXi 96-98 rear brake drums (not sure about the 99-00 CXi's)


engine ek4
- dohc vtec (faster)
- all 4 brake disc no drums

thats without getting too technical with kw's and engine name n numbers n shit..

ill let the other guru's do that for yah

buy the ek4..

ek1's vary from 96-00

ek4's were only from 96-98

interior of ek1
- grey trims with different cloth trimming.
- grey carpet
- no headrest for the back seats
- no passenger air bag
- diff cluster
- ek1 CXi no power options (not sure about the 99-00 CXi's)
- ek1 GLi power options

interior of ek4
- black trims with redish black cloth trimming
- black carpet
- headrest for back seats
- passenger air bag
- diff cluster
- ek4 all have power options (power mirrors, windows n stuff)

exterior ek1
- no sunroof
- chatty hub caps if standard

exterior ek4
- factory sunroof
- comes with fully sick ek4 rims (blades i guess)

the main factors that would get you buying an ek4 is motor is diff, it has rear discbrakes, ABS, and all electricals ie: power windows, power mirrors, sunroof.ek4 has bigger sway bars on the front, and extra sway bar on the rear over the ek1.and all of the above that dupac has mentioned cosmetic wise

Brakes are also different (the gli had discs in the back).

diffrent brakes 4 disc all around, diffrent dash had tacho etc.

mirrors are black on the CXI and gli/vtir they are colour coded! tacho as mentioned, electric options, interior trim. biggest factor is the motor and seriously if u can afford to get a EK4 for your first car do it. if u have the knowledge time and money buy a CXI or GLI and do an engine conversion down the track you could also follow that path.. really it is up to you but if i had my time again i would have saved up a bit more and got myself a EK4! good luck with it dude!

all depends on condition, kms, age, gli or cxi varient...

go with ek1 gli and get a conversion done, more satisfying if your into modding :)

what budget are you looking at? what mods are you looking at doing?
if engine upgrading is your thing, i guess go the GLi and upgrade to B18c or something (H series / K series if you've got the cash).
If you're into other performance or cosmetic mods, or just want a first car that goes good without needing to mod it, I say grab the EK4 cause you'll get the B16A.
If you CBF modding anything, look for one with I/H/E and suspension already done :thumbsup:

whatever the option.. make sure it has OEM rear tail-lights dude. trust me ;)

Nah I don't want to mod it. I've had enough of modifying, I used to be into nissans and modding. I can't stand the headaches that come with it.

These days I want something that already has the work done, or is good from the factory. So, I wouldnt mind buying an EK with a B18C or even just a standard ek4/vtir

right now im leaning towards EK1, because i cant find any ek4's for sale and i dont really care anyway.

i can just sell the ek1 later on and get a nicer ek4 or something i guess

just get the cheapest ek you can find.
be it cxi or gli. and just ripp the motor out for a K's transplant.

(b - series is so last century.)

guarenteed to make you smile all day every day.

jus get the EK1 with gd paint and nice interior. Chuck in a B18CR. Find 1 under $7000, dun worry Kilometres but u can press price down if high kms.

I will be stupid to buy an EK4 and wanna get more power and put in a B18CR and find it hard to sell the B16 engine. The extra $4k is not gonna be recoup unless ur B16a is perfect condition but it will cost more in 1st place. haha. So jus get the EK1 and drop a B18CR $7k+$7k=$14k, that will kill EK4. haha gd luck..

BUT!! EK4 have nicer seats, 1-9k rpm tacho, not in GLI, Sunroof, rear swaybar and brakes are diff. But still EK1 with B18CR is the best option. Sunroof is heavy and swaybar can be bought, needless to say for the tacho and seats. !!

just boost the either and i'm sure you will be happy with the performance
ek4 has most of the mods without the need to do much for decent performance.
ek1 will require some upgrades to get it to perform
