i dropped in for a looksie, some very nice cars out today.
was a good afternoon.
damn shifter bolts :p

Yeah, had bad luck with the gayness shifter, made me forfit the 3rd session and get a tow to the pitts. Wasnt much water on the track, only cross over had water on it which ment some sweet civic drifting onto the main straight. 63 was the fastest i could manage, it was had to get a run without getting held up by traffic. Paul (4orgd) beat me by .4 with a low 63. Next time should be good, hopefully get put in a group with faster cars.
Alex, did you hear old mate in the xr8, he was like lucky your civic is turbo charged, thats the only reason you beat me down the straight. Then he realised it was NA and went red faced.

I did hear that, I had a little chuckle.
Both the civics looked the goods out there. You could hear everything Paul was doing with his feet the whole way around the track haha

geez that wouldnt have been a good sound!
Had alot of fun out there today even though the traffic and "QR pool" was slowing things down a little, made turn 6 into a drift comp..Bobby one that..aha

you won the fire bug, setting the grass on fire between 1-2 on you spin out, i left half my traction bars on turn 1 ripple strip. The traffic was the big let down. Its hard to put down some solid times when you are always getting held back. Normally its torana's.

It was great watching a greatly built fluro yellow eg 4 wheel lock up into the grass and set fire to it. Meanwhile the driver had the biggest smile on his face! classic.
saw both these cars on the track, very high pitched haha
you can cut ur times down alot with practise, 63 is a good time for a first time out there. i noticed u can slash alot of time using better lines around some corners. o well hope to see u out there for the may event to :D
blah missed paul out on track.

they would of went faster because the track was wet and a big puddle on turn 6

it wasnt that i was refering to, there lines coming into and out of corners can be improved alot, they will pick this up with more practise im sure, just trying to give them some advise. they werent using alot of the track, especially coming onto the main straight around turn 6 coming out of that corner they should be right on the edge closest to the wall, instead they were cutting in which would make them loose speed at the start of the straight. basictly u want to make the angles coming in and out of corners as small as possible.
im sure me saying this will cuase a shit fight, but hey just trying to give them advise on things i was noticing that would dramatically bring there tmes down. these cars even with that puddle would be capable of smashing a 61 out there
btw for the record the track itself was dry but the puddle in entry to turn 5 put water around turn 5 and 6, rest of the track was able to be done at full speed
just trying to point them in the right direction. would be good to see u guys out again in may dont see many hardcore hondas out there

Circuit racing is more addictive then drag racing once you get into it ...
You may find you will start to purposely learn your track lines and start throwing money into suspension setup once you get going and see the lap times go down
Ps. Constant sub 60's is enough to win Road 4 class at QR ...
Unless the Birkin drivers starts using S2000 engines :zip:

I saw it pointless to use all that track when i couldnt get good entry speed into turn 6, why look like im driving fast when im not. Im in the same mind as paul, Had a blast and not to concerened about times. Went out to enjoy what i / we had built and i believe that was achieved. Maybe over the next few sprints i will or even we will put more attention to driving lines and being a all round circuit dog but for now smiles and enjoyment.
LOL, I still haven't been able to use the full width of turn 6 either.
Even when drifting. nub cake T_T
And the bumps leading into turn 1 are messed up. I've been told to brake after them......:|

Well we are right on the 95dB limit, so i guess if we dont change anything then it should be all good. I'm not sure whether they are measuring sound pressure or sound power either. I know one of the methods takes into consideration the frequency.

was out at Lakeside again on the weekend, bettered my time by heaps an i rkn i can still get it even quicker. At the end of the day they had like "Free Practice" and i palyed with my suspension settings and using they highly accurite iphone stop watch was averagely .8sec quicker, so next months sprint is going to be interesting.

Its called hungry because it catches cars/bikes/sidecars/karts from the high speed left before it.....not kidding. I was so lucky to come out with no damage. On that same day same corner 3 went home on trailers. It is a very unforgiving track, but at the same time, it is a very challenging and fun track. Looking at the 'track attack' comp they ran on sunday the same day as us, the fastest time was 63s. I'm sure the 'track attack' entrants have done better times.

I think this needs to go to a general vote.
As QR Sprints does not allow the use of full slicks, other competitors who are chasing points will report you if they find you're running them.
So given that, should full slick times be posted on the board ?

Am i really reading this, at the top of the page on my computer it says i am on oz honda not queenslands raceways page. in saying that what does that have to do with putting my times on oz honda. Is there a problem with a shitty looking car doing his own thing while doing quick times on here.
For the record took semis (toyos R888) on the weekend to prove a point that maybe the green thing with a flogged out b16a is pretty quick. with track times down as far as i beleave she did 61.8. who needs full slicks to be fast sorry i cant aford semi slick.

Queensland Raceway Rules for Competition in Sprints Events.
SAS Meets - Slicks not Permitted
WAS Meets - Any Tyre
Lakeside Open Sprints - Any Tyre
Lakeside Street Sprints - Slicks not Permitted
Topgear Sprint Series - Any Tyre
I hope i have covered all the sprints events, personally i run semi's in all those events. Semi's work out at about 5-10% cheaper than slicks on average. The big thing is that you will probably only get 2 meets out of slicks, whereas semi's you will get somewhere between 4 - 7 meets.
In theory, slicks should be giving you a fair bit quicker time. Looking at the 2nd hand slicks that brenden uses, you can easily see why his times with new semis where almost the same. The rubber on the slicks was hard and shiny, totally stuffed, but they still had rubber left on them.
I guess as long as the tyre used should be recorded in the records. And i do think that it can be a good indicator of the diference in track time achieved by using slicks. Most cams events will not let you run full slicks unless you have a harness and a roll cage. AASA don't have the same ruling.
In the future, if i continue developing my DC5R, on some meets, I will be running full slicks. Fresh ones though. At this stage, there is no sense in running them as the camber is not correct to do so, the slicks would be wastes. Once the camber is sorted, then they will be used.

The majority of times recorded for the QR sprints are based on SAS results so all of the competitors ran under the Saturday rules.
We've just never had anyone run with full slicks before, which can reset the goal post a good second or more.
We've seen an even shittier condition SiR run into the 59's with suspension work, stripped out and running RE55S, so no we have no problems with people running fast times with Honda's.
But if no one objects to times being posted with full slicks I can post it up.

I'm potentially gonna open up a can of worms here.... and people might get their nose out of joint. But if this list is for SAS cars only.. then there are a few who should not even be on the list.
SAS allows road registered cars.
That means cars need to be in a roadworthy state.... not just have a current rego sticker.
Stripping of interior, to changing of seats, using harnesses, roll bars etc without a blue plate deems that car non roadworthy thus not SAS compliant.
Slicks are in the same catagory.
This is something I made sure I was not infringing on when I used to go out. However... I point my finger at QR for not scruting cars. I don't know if this is still the case but back then it was way too relaxed in this respect.. I never saw anyone checking cars over.
This poses a few issues from sportsmanship between entrants to general safety.
Reguardless if AASA are making motorsport affordable and accessable to majority of people with a drivers licence and a car, in my opinion, these issues, especially general safety should NOT be overlooked.
Were does this lead me to... a lap time is a lap time... I'd like to see it recorded down on this thread.
Where you document it is IMO where it needs to be reconsidered in this thread... you guys are going to have to figure that one out between yourselves.

I only removed my interior 5 weeks ago, and i still use the stock seats and seat belts. I know there's faster cars out there with cages etc, when we do hit the track, we are always in group 1 with the carrera cup cars and full built race cars. It just inspires me to make the DC5R go faster and continue to practice by getting as much track time as possible. The hi power racing guys did great times in there CRX with the CF doors, Boot lids etc. Just makes me want to go faster. After all, first one across the line is the winner.

To right mate this is what i have been trying to say the hole time.
As for safety goes, how goes taking carpet out and rear interior make the car unsafe, if the car is unsafe it has nothing to do with qr they have there own thing to do. it is up to the owner of the car it is his own stuipidty if the car is unsafe it is only him self that is going to get hurt, any way back to the main point the admin needs to decide weather this is going to be a sas times list or just open class as if you where in top gear.
SPEEDCORE
30-09-2009, 06:26 PM
it is only him self that is going to get hurt
Sorry dude but I beg to differ.... it could very well involve others.
Given if carpet and rear interior is taken out (don't ask me on legality of that), more specifically rear seats being stripped, without mod plate, it might be allowed on the track because of the lack of scrutineering, but brings up the issue of sportsmanship.... as I mentioned before, because you are NOT roadworthy.
One would assume that as an up and comming motorsport body that is hell bent on offering something that CAMS doesn't, I do not comprehend why something like a basic form of safety scruting is not in place.
Especially when you have been quoted saying that safety at AASA events have always been on top of the priority list.
This is not a dig at QR or AASA, John calls my partner and I every now and then to have a chat and see how things are going with us, its just I personally would like to see some things changed.... especially since I am possibly returning AASA events soon.

well this all seems to be about sas rules well if someone else gets hurt caused by someones unsafe car, sounds like one of them never went to drivers briefing as there rules say no close driving being it is only sprints.
no worrys mate not here to argue, just here trying to get some times up but would seem easyer to ride a bike with no chain. over it now if my times go up i will be back in here other wise there is no point for me to be here.

Speedcore i agree with your point of view entirely.
There should be a scruituineering system inplace before each event.
The case with my car is not a fact of if it was safe modifications because that was always my main priority, it was due to me not getting the certificates straight away and therefore my car got pinged for it. entirely my fault in the roadworthy sceme.
My problem now is not having the funds to be able to get it blue plated in time for one of the remainder of the events this year.
I want to put the seat back in to aid in my control my car around the track and the removal of the interior pieces is the equivelent of someone being able to extract more power from a turbo kit or similar improvements to the dynamics of their car in other areas.
The whole point of the restrictions on tyres and lexan windows etc is to bring the competition level back to what would be allowed on the street if done corectly.
I will admit that I was originaly against allowing the times of cars with slicks in the list until the point was made of the tyres being specified beside the car details.

I wanted someone to open one up :p
As previously stated I ask about full slicks as it's a modification which can't be certified for road use, however the general consensus is that everyone would like to see times posted so long as the situations are recorded.
My problem now is not having the funds to be able to get it blue plated in time for one of the remainder of the events this year.
Give us a call knob
I only removed my interior 5 weeks ago, and i still use the stock seats and seat belts. I know there's faster cars out there with cages etc, when we do hit the track, we are always in group 1 with the carrera cup cars and full built race cars. It just inspires me to make the DC5R go faster and continue to practice by getting as much track time as possible. The hi power racing guys did great times in there CRX with the CF doors, Boot lids etc. Just makes me want to go faster. After all, first one across the line is the winner.
I'm pretty sure Rob set the 56.9 before the car was resprayed, it didn't get the lightened doors and rear hatch until after that. It made a massive jump when they went from the B16A to B20.
Ps. Stock RECARO's rock ... so comfy for racing :p
Alright, we have a general consensus that we'd like times posted with circumstances attached so post times you fruits !

The results may be on natsoft, and i have the qr website does post the times, i have the printouts of each lap compared to others on the track at the same time. Looking at the times for lakeside and queensland raceway, my Toda Powered 'One To Pin' is lapping quicker than most of the race cars out there. Just waiting for monty to get his ass into gear so i have a DC5R to compare to.

There was a red s2k with a really good setup, he did a low 58s on the sprints circuit, but unfortunately he has some major front brake problems and had to pull out. I'm pretty sure its putting out very similar hp to my 'One to Pin'. He had a newly added cf roof, looked great

Multiple issues - Engine mounts ****ed, rear trailing arm bush ****ed, front end isn't tight (bushes) etc .. Multitude + I didnt take my damper adjuster, so was stuck on damping for street, massively under damped for the track.. just kept packing up and unsettling the car hugely..
Will be fixed for next session in Feb I guess, was good actually -- Needed to pin point a few things and no better way than to figgure them out on the track at the limit.
Also desperately need camber arms -- Think it would make massive difference to 1 degree of negative camber rofl thinking around 5 degrees initially and go from there.

hey i know this isn't a queensland track but we are starting to get alot of guys down from that way because its so close. So i figured there might be some interest in it now.
Grafton Hillclimb, 1988 CRX, B16B, kumho v700 52.23 (class record since 2008)
Grafton Hillclimb, 1987 Civic, B16B, Kumho v700 52.64 (track car 2010) the new car just isn't quite there haha
anyway, thanks heaps either way. i figure we are always running out of tracks so this could be a great way for people to find out about a new track they can try which is only 3 hours under the boarder. cheers

man she is a fun little track, check this link out for a quick tin top, usually finishes the day top 3, more offen than not 1st outright even when the openwheelers turn up
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzEcILUxpmM
I figured i would chuck one of the old crx for a laugh. last meeting with the civic, first in class, 8th outright and 4th out of club members. 36 cars at meeting, not bad for a 1.6L NA civic. And i still can't beat my class record.. dam it

First sprint, oil filler cap fell off and lots of traffic. 67 on clubman, first time,
Second sprint: Missed it because i was down buying a new oil cap. Thanks heaps to alex who drove me down to get another. Thanks.
Third: Just before the start i found my rear camber arm had come loose so had to fix that. During that run i had alot of trouble with a sticking throttle. Finally got the brakes working up to 80% and kept braking to early.
Fourth: Fixed throttle and found a large vaccum leak coming out of booster. Had a few clean laps and managed a 60.979. 2 seconds on my PB. Need to fix the brakes so they will work 100% and get use to them, and get something wider then 195's. Thanks to everyone that helped me today :D.

actually the driftbox recorded the time as 56.5 (sprint) and 59.5 clubman but not reflected on actual QR timesheet.
in car video footage via a 1080p gopro, counting video frame timestamps seem to put the sprint time as a 56.9
but for qr to be out potentially by +/- 0.5-1 sec is huge in my opinion

my guess is if u rocked up to a qr sprint day it would prob do a 55.xx to low 56.xx lap i'm guessing. based on the fact that a r35 gtr around EC on slicks does 1:40 and wakefield the 35s do about a 1:01 on slicks. here around qr they are around mid 55s on slicks but more modified than duncan's or mareks r35, but on semis they seem to be doin 57-58s @qr sprints

Fastest sprint run (4 laps standing start) was a 2min:28.51
Fastest individual lap time was a 35.69sec
won the improved production class (12 competitors) by approx 6 sec's and finished 4th outright out of a field of approx 80 cars.
Only got beaten by a series 5 turbo rx7 sports sedan, a v8 vk commodore sports sedan and a r33 gtr. Not bad for a little 1600cc

91type-r. You were very fast in that thing. Look forward to it's progression.
MulLensxxx was super loud and with some more seat time those numbers will drop.
They ran the groups backwards ie sprints first which I was hoping they wouldn't as I had to scrub in new tyres ( which took alot longer then I thought). Ran 60.97.
On clubman which was my first proper run on it got 63.66. I know I can knock a solid second out of that if I can grow some balls and do the first corner faster. Also not going so deep on turn 3 and getting on the gas earlier on turn 4. Need more seat time.
