i was driving my car yesterday, and was all fine, and i stopped at lights, and noticed my car was idleing normal, then it goes up maybe 200, for 2 seconds, then back down to normal 2 seconds, then back up 200 for 2 seconds, and thats how it idles. Just up and down every 2 seconds.

Any suggestions??

Were you running the aircon?

Don't know about the fan, but nop, car hasnt been driven for about 3 weeks, and i took the air con out while it wasnt being driven.

Was only on a short trip, was fine first 10 minutes then started this idle thing

sounds like you need to ground your car more for a more stable idle. do one of those diy engine grounding guides

Dirty Throttle Body, http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35488
FITV needs adjusting (when engine is cold)
IACV needs cleaning (when engine warm)

Im pretty sure its not throttle body,

I was thinking more into IACV, and i dont think the 96+ have a FITV, or timing or something like that.

if its hunting like that it can be many options

Ground/Earth needs a better connection

Sensor or sensor's
Maybe o2 sensor

TPS

AFM might need to be cleaned

Vacuum leaks

just a few things to check

I dont see how it could be the ground, they were never touched and there was no problem with it before.

Ill check the others, my exhaust manifold and entire intake arm were removed, and then reassembled. Ill check its all been put together right.

i recently experienced the same problem when i came back from a holiday and got my muffler fixed. see if theres a constriction in the pipe, or rev the throttle up to flush some crap out. What eurodude said might be true, dirty throttle.

I removed my throttle body and fully cleaned it. It was full of shit, as well as my IACV. They are now spotless but still, i have this issue.

I tried to start my car while the dizzy connector was unplugged. Would this have any effect on my car?

It was a while ago, when i was doing some stuff with my car it hadnt been driven for about 1 month, and i tried to start it and realised i didnt plug the dizzy in. I didnt drive it after that for about a week, and when i finally drove it, is when this problem started.

I'd replace the TB gasket. Cheap and effective way of fixing idle hunting. Take the TB off and buy a gasket from Honda for about 16bux. WD40 it for good adhesion before putting it on. Start her up and see how she idles then.

I've had this problem before and everything was tried and done, but it never occurred to me that the TB gasket had shit itself. I changed it straight away and WALLAH! FIXED! :D

Yea but problem is only when its hot...
Why would it not idle hunt when its cold if its just the TB gasket..

Has the throttle adjustment (screw) ever been readjusted? Perhaps you need to revert it back to its factory position.

Well thats the reason that led me to believe that it wasn't the TB gasket. It would idle fine on cold start, but as soon as it reached operating temp it would start to hunt between 1000-1500rpm. It wouldn't hurt to replace the TB gasket with a new one, as the factory ones are pretty flimsy. When I took mine off the first time, it was in tatters. It's no surprise there'd be a leak in there somewhere. The chances of your TB being cracked or sensor malfunctioning are less likely than a bung gasket. Give that a shot and see how it goes. :D

Cheers!

If the idle adjustment screw has been touched, the only difference it would make is the idle would either be higher or lower obviously, but it won't affect it to a point where the idle is hunting or something has malfunctioned/failed to read something right. Though, it can sometimes trigger these sort of reactions from your comp if you suddenly adjust it not knowing that you have a bung sensor or gasket somewhere in the loop.

Ive never touched it.
Car was fine when i bought it,
And for the next few months.

It was only once the car hadn't been used for a while it started..

When i took my TB off the gasket looked perfect.
Should i try take it off again, spray WD40 on it ( both sides right? ) then re-install it?

Give it some WD40, then see how it goes, though it shouldn't make much of a difference. Has it been replace since you've bought the car? Or ever for that matter? If it was stuck to the TB when you took it off, then it's likely it's still the original, and at this point pretty old. Is it orange 'ish in colour? Or yellow?

Its yellow in colour, although it looks good.

Yellow = faded, time for swap?

But i found a solution to my problem, if you give the accelerator a punch while its doing it, it goes away ???

Nice link :D But yeah, if the gasket is yellow then it's the newer types. No probs with the gasket. If its a bright orange one like my D16Y1's, then it's likely to be fubbard. But you've got a yellow one so all good hehe.

The link that the fella above me posted seems like a good shot. Though now I'm starting to think its to do with some of your vacuum hoses. :( Headache!

I don't know how, or what....

It idle's perfect now, after about 1 month of it, up and down, real pain in the ass. Except it now idles abit lower then it used to i think ( i can't even hear it idle ) but doesn't sound like its struggling or anything, and im not complainging, its GONE!!

I was getting sick of everyone looking at me at the traffic lights because my car is loud
:o
Some people even used to come next to me and rev their cars lol....

I'm ever so close to turbo and i wanted to fix this issue before its turbo'd.

I could have various other issues to add on top once turbo is all done and it would just really piss me off. Glad its over.... i still dont know what the hell it was, and it was really bad.... was so annoying
