Wondering about gold badging and EK rear lower spoilers

Hey guys.. had a chat with forummer O2ZZI the other day about EK rear lower spoilers (the one that sits just above the H). As far as I know, it came stock with the car, '00 EK1 Civic hatch, with gold badging. The ex-gf's ('99 or '00 EK1) came with silver badging and also had the rear lower spoiler.

So we were wondering- when does the rear lower spoiler come stock, or is it an option the previous owners probably chose? I notice the majority of random similar civic hatches I see on the road don't have the spoiler.. Is it a year thing? Is it an improvement post facelift?

Also, was wondering about the gold badging. What's the occasion or did someone at Honda just think of releasing a few with gold badges for the fun of it? I suspect the gold badge increases the speed of the car, braking power not to mention increases ride comfort and fuel economy? lol.. or not. Just being silly. But yeah. Why??

I know Pentax occasionally released special edition gold badged cameras for anniversaries and things. Is that the same case?

Any thoughts?

i always thought both were just options, mine has gold badges, but no mid spoiler

Can anyone confirm? There's really not that much write up out there on optional gold badges or the rear mid spoiler for the ek..

To my understanding, and I may be wrong, both items that you are talking about were part of the options list that people choose from when they were buying the car new.
