Hey all,
What thickness aluminium sheet should I use for the door trims of my car? If i go too thin will it dint and flex too easily? Main aim is to inclose the door and reduce weight.

You mean the inside of the door?
Just run no door skins, even extra light weight.
Making up such a thing would weigh just about the same amount IMO as a door skin, thats if thats what your aiming to do? Im not too sure.
I got some 0.8mm sheet metal in the garage, about 1m x 1m and it weighs nearly that of a door skin anyway IMO. I reckon the 0.8mm would be easier to mould to shape, but yes it would get dents n shit in it if you leant on it.

Another thing you could do is just gut the standard door skin, cut out all the plastic and crap on it thats un-necesary...

Cheers Paul, Hear you loud and clear on the weight point you have. Yet it is my understanding of the CAMS logbook that I need to have a HARD surface inclosing the door. Besides I hope to remove everything (including the internal wondow sill) to make it a little lighter.

Ah i see. no probs.
I got my sheetmetal down here in Geelong obviously.
I first tryed a place which i think was called Metal Land. They wanted $55 for a sheet, was a little over 1m x 1m.
I then tryed a place that sells used metals/timbers etc and they wanted around $30-35 for the same piece not new.
I then found a place i think was called MetalCorp. They are a company who fabricate things out of metals i think they said. They sell their offcuts (if they have any) for cheap. I got a 1m x 1m of 0.8mm for $10. They also had the same in 2mm for i think it was about $14. I need to get some more 2mm.
So what im saying, is call around all the metal places before buying any..
You may find someone selling cheap offcuts, just gotta hope they have some offcut sheets long/wide enough for your application.

Is it really going to be any lighter replacing the standard trims with metal?
wouldnt your best bet be modifying the standard trims/removing sound deadener etc

Yes i hear what your saying, but another thing I have to think about is the space inside the car, I think i may need to run the side intrusions into the door skins... reason being is there isnt going to be much room for a seat etc. Going down to see some guys on the weekend that can hopefully fab me up a cage.
