hey guys..........i no its been covered before, i have searched, but havnt found what i'm looking for.........

i purchased my car with 17 inch P1 buddy clubs and wrong offset, but never got to notice the performance and handeling.
then i put the stocky 15's on with brand new michelens and that feels really good.
just recently i had 2007 model ctr 18's and the handeling and accelaration was shit house........however i did have shit tyres too (nankangs).......
now that the 18's are up for sale and never to bee used again, the stockies are back, they perform great, with cornering and straight line speed and acceleration being more than excellent.
i want to change the look and not sure if its worth it if the 15's are the best possible performance and handeling sized wheel for dc2r.
so the options are 16x7 or 17x7...with the right offsett and good/excellent street tyres, and ofcourse the weight to be at the most, same as stock 15's or less.
what would u guys recommend and y?????

thanks heaps.

p.s. moderator's if this is in the wrong section please move.

Get the set of DC2R JDM 16" rims. Exactly the same styling as 15", but in 16". Can't help you with contact, but guys in buy/sell trade section will. (Some people in Sydney used to bring them in). Good luck!

very VERY hard to get them in Sydney, and when you do, they are stupidly overpriced...

ive got the hrv 16' jap wheels , a bit heavier than 15' but on the street not a problem, i think they are the correct offset . go to trading post i think a place in queensland had them pretty cheap.

A light weight forged 16"x7 is the best for dc2r, they do cost more due to being forged instead of cast (weight saving + more durable) but if it is performance that you are after then there is really no other better alternative. A set of RAYS 16" weight only 690kg (no tyres) which is lighter (only slightly) than the 15" stockies.

ive currently got 15x6.5inch Gab Sports 2-piece rims, with bridgestone 195/50/r15 Adrenalin Potenza on the front and potenza grid III tyres.

to me they are top, holds well, in wet and dry. the rims look awesome too. :D

Maybe try the Audm Dc5 5 spokes which are 16's.
They seem to go cheap and they are reasonably light too.
Gunmetal would suit yellow too.

yeh but they look wrong on the dc2

Pardon me but im pretty sure 01 DC2R comes with 16" wheels... not 15"s

Stick with the stock sizing of rims! I regret that i paid alot of money for 17"s when my car came with 15"s. It makes handling/cornering so sh!t on low speed!!!

nope, stock 2001 dc2r came with 15" rims. I've got dc5r rims on my dc2r and they are great... also u don't need to worry about anybody wanting to steal them...hehe

funnily enough i got white wheels for my yellow car, and by the end of the week i just love them. and given time you end up liking which ever wheels you got anyways. there a good tyre out there called adrenalin, they're soo nice to drive on.
http://www.dunloptires.com/dunlop/display_tire.jsp?prodline=SP+Sport+01+DSST&mrktarea=Performance
there they are and for the 15" wheel you should be able to get them for no more then $240 each. (considering i can get these tires in Alice Springs for this price, syd/melb should get them for a little less)

I just got buddy clubs, and now I think perhaps I should of got some from a DC5, does anyone know if these wheels are compatible for a DC2?

Thanks...
all I've done is put on some tints from supercheaps, the faded blue chrome ones filled the front in with some blue race mesh (which i think kinda clash with the white wheels) sooo maybe contemplated the black ones. but there seams to be some unspoken about the "white wheels = light weight" might strip the blue tints, put on silver ones, and change the front to black or white? dunno yet
I finally figured out a new number plate (they wouldn't let me have AZKIKR) Sooo i think i'm gonna go with HRDLIQR (and to the side i can get a sticker that says "...the ladies man" :D

Aaaand we have the worst speed bumps in the world at our BP, I kinda have to pull an illegal U-turn into BP so I can avoid the bumps. So i think i need to keep the standard ride height for now... just till I take it home with me

i went from 205/50/15 on stock dc2r wheels to 205/45/16 on 16x7 +42 SSR typeC (gunmetal) and the improvement in steering crispness was pretty good.

Not sure about going to 17" though. Might be good. My mate has bronze 17x7 P1's on his dc2r and that thing rides very well.. so its probably up to you.

but yeah, gotta get the right offset.

Sometimes i regret not getting something like a 16x7.5 or 17x7.5 and going up to 215/40/17 tyres... fatter, more grip etc.. but i reckon this would be more appropriate if i have substantial power mods but i dont so i wanted to keep the weight to an absolute minimum. smaller wheels means lighter weight. look here for wheel weights:http://www.wheelweights.net (http://www.wheelweights.net/)

Would you know how they compare to the 195s? I'm not sure what would be best 195 or 205

i never got to drive on street tyres 195/55/15 so i cant compare but many people say on the 15x6 wheels 195 is better than 205 as 205's suffer from sidewall flex on turn in.

i have RE55S semi slicks (195/55/15) now on my 16x5 wheels and they feel great.

Hi there IEVAQ8!

This might be worthwhile for you..

I had a stock DC2 Type R, yellow - and I purchased Rays TE37's in 16x7 which were originally in bronze, and they looked ghastly on a yellow car so I removed all the labels, had them bead blasted and powder coated and the labels re-applied so they would be quite a dark gunmetal grey.

With tyres, I went from 205,50,R15 on the stock wheels (Bridgestone Potenza G3) to 215,40,R16 (nearly the only tyre to come in that size - Good Year Eagle F1) And although the tyres are more expensive, they certainly lack in quality in the dry - yet in the wet they excel and leave the bridgestones for dead.

But that said, I used a set of half-worn Advan A032R's (205,45,16) for about 7 or 8 days, and they were - UNBELIEVABLE - however, they are approximately 5mm wider than the Good Years, funny how a 'race' 205 tyre can be bigger than a 'road' 215 tyre!

I find the slight increase in width has a huge effect in making the feel from the front much more crafted, and tailored - allowing you to really take advantage of the tyres full grip when driving up or down a mountain road.

When cruisng around town though, there is no stand out tyre, except that having a race tyre on attracts a bit more attention.

Hope that helps!

Cheers, D.

thanks for the write up. RP points for u..............
so in ur experience 16's are the way to go, i was thinking the te37's but not too sure any more as i can get my hands on a set of jdm 16's

Your welcome!

Well I bought the TE's and made them gunmetal because there's simply no better wheel when your after a 'race' look.

But I do admit, the style created when Honda released the Civic R in yellow with white wheels does look wholesome - so much so I 'nearly' did mine white - but changed at the last minute.

So the 16' JDM wheels, what width are they? If they're 6' then those Advans I talked about will definitely not fit. However a 205 'road' tyre would fit easily, with a bit of protection (overhang). I just got the 7' wide TE's because they fit that Good Year 215 tyre I mentioned - it was pure luck that the Advan fit perfectly.

Cheers! D.

yeh i think the jdm wheels are by 6.5, if not i will sell and get some te37's, they doo look absolutely tough on dc2r, and considering mine is also yellow, i am thinking of mat black with polished lip, or the whole lot mat black..........

or if the jdm 16's are good and suit the tyres well, i will just get them painted mat or gloss black.........

atm like my thread states i have my stockies painted gloss black........with 205/50 michelens and they hold very well, and i can not believe the handeling in the wet..............

Not sure if this has been said? CBF to read through the entire thread,

But 16 x 7 is probs the best for the car, provided that they are light.

If you think about it, the 96 Spec JDM ITR came with 15's, and the 98 + Spec JDM ITR "UPGRADED" to 16's. This made the car handle better, and was considered an improvment.

I currently have 16x7 rays CE28N's on my DC2. They are great - Very rigid (So great steering input), and very light compared to stock 15's I noticed a difference! But for track... I'll be using the 15's with Semi's... Mainly cos I don't want to kill the CE28's.

ok i have been searching for a few days about the topic of offsets.. now this has been brought up il just ask here myself.
now im in the process of getting g-max/g-mac i forget what they called size il be getting is 17" x 7.5 but been asking round for best offset.

i have a dc2 (not the type r so i dont want offsets for those) and it will be droped once i put the wheels on. i dont wana stuff around with spacers at all and just want a snug fit as i possibly can. dont want it too ricy but im not gona be racing the thing either...

a straight answer would be greatly appreciated :)

IEVAQ8
04-02-2008, 10:48 PM
as far as i'm aware, +42 offset suits dc2 perfect..........
now that is for 16x7..........if u go wider and biger like yourself, u can (i think) get away with lower offset (+38) like i said dont quote me on that

marky53
04-02-2008, 11:01 PM
arent you not supposed to go wider than 1 inch from stock????
