my mate is having a k24 bottom end, and k20 top end installed in his dc5r

he already has the k20a type R gear box.

question is, which box would be better for k20/24 engine? the k20 short geared box, or k24 long geared box.

Some have said, the k20 box will be too short for a higher powered/torque engine.

All feedback appreciated.

In my friends K24/20 EG the DC5R box seems to be ok
It does rev a lot, and only has stock K20A cams in it but unless the car is used for journeys, then I'd say the DC5R box
Also, considering he already has it and all might as well use it
Alternatively also maybe just swapping the FD over rather than whole gearbox

Speak to Yonas. He is finding that the Type R box is too short for drag racing. He is running out of gears at 109mph. That is with the standard 4.7 final drive.

it also depends on how much rpm your car is running..
yonas's car stopps at 7600rpm i think, and he hits close to end of 5th gear down the 1/4

redline for the k20/k24 combo will be 7.4k with a rev limiter of 8k.

dragging will not be priority of the car, more mountain/ mild track.

k20 box will do then? also has added benefit of lsd.

He is near the top of 6th. He told me himself he runs out of gears. :)

Well unless they have changed the mounts you cant use the k24 gearbox. Best option is to change to a longer final drive for the k20 gearbox if you are dealing with a great amount of power.

i can either stay on 5th and rev limiter it for a good 0.2 sec
or shift to 6th.

But I always shift to 6th to finish up 1/4 mile

depending on what type of racing you are into
you can always change your gear ratio by different tyres set up or different final drive
