Hi all, I know its a very stupid question to ask but... How would we know that vtec has kicked in ? would there be some sorta indicator on the dash ? I am driving a 1994 vtiR teg, putting it in 3rd gear and flooring it till 7000rpm ... i don't really feel much difference.. What's suppose to happen in vtec ?
Also, my old thermostat was busted.. i replaced it with an aftermarket one.. the temperature indictor needle now points slightly away from the halfway mark.. but NOT at the halfway mark..
All previous cars i driven had the needle point at the halfpoint.. :S
Would the cool engine temperature be the cause of my vtec not engaging ?
Many Thanks to those who can answer.. :)

yes water temp does affect vtec but so long as your over 1/3 it will kick in.
You can't miss a b series vtec. The noise is different.

Maybe your vtec doesnt work. :O
Should be a huge difference in noise and more pull at around the 5700+ RPM mark
And engine temperature is suppose to be about 1 bar away from half way mark. (Unless thrashed to the shithouse)?

I do feel more torque beyond the 6000rpm mark.. alot more than my previous cars... they were flat out at 6000rpm.... I'm still running stock exhaust...
How can vtec not work ? Anyone in perth care to sit in with me and tell me if i'm getting vtec ? :)
^^^his being serious... ^^^ i have a whale penis. makes even a louder noise when vtec kicks in lol
my car is tuned at 5500rpm. after that point u will hear a different sound a louder . which is vtec.

easiest way is it take off ur air filter cover take it for a drive and once u go over 6K it will scream and u won't wanna take ur foot off that pedal.
enjoy =)

yea probably if u wanna make the most of ur b series engine, but thats after time money and head ache of choosing the right system/parts.
my way is instant and free for a quick check for vtec.
oh and try driving around on a nice hot day. u'll feel the difference of the car in an instant compared to the cold nights.

THERE IS A VTEC SOLENOID UNDER THE HOOD THAT YOU CAN CHECK, MAYBE THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE SOLENOID. OR MAYBE LOOSE.

i heard another member on here says theres a switch in the engine bay to turn vtec on or offf
lol no u didnt.
remember vtec isnt a turbo, your not gunna feel a huge 'pull', but yes intake makes huuuuuuuuuuuge diffrence in vtec!, i have d16 and u can hear a massive difference, and your DOHC Bseries will be much better to. so yeh intake FTW.
yep the solenoid might be loose or off?
