View Full Version : A perfect DC5R idling rpm?

Hi guys,

Is 1K (RPMs) idle too high for a parked 60 second startup on a 2-Month old 'recon'd' / imported DC5r? Pardon my major ignorance but I've always assumed that before engaging gears, it should be at 0. Help me be less of a noob please.

what now?

When the car is cold it will 'idle-up', and with any cold car you should drive it gently until its hot, but you can drive it. If the idle is over 1000rpm once its hot then theres something wrong.

just started up for a minute, from cold won't wark your car up

check your idle after 20 minutes of driving.bout 650 - 850 rpm (not sure of dc5's but most are this range)

this should be most cars

Wah? Idle at 0 RPM???? 1k is fine from the start up, it should go down to 600-900. My DC2R goes up to 1.5 at start up just to warm up on some days.

the rpm is revolutions per minute of your pistons basically, so ofcourse it doesnt idle at 0 or else that means the pistons arnt moving at all and your engine isnt running.idle of the engine will be up around 1000 when cold and down to around 800 for normal driving at operation temperature

well..basically...no.

pistons dont 'revolve' and thus their movement cant be measured in revolutions per minute.

rpm measures the speed of the crankshaft.

i understand the engine in detail.just didnt want to confuse the guy,we arnt here to show off how much we know,we are here to give people an understanding of something at their level

was pretty vague of me to say pistons though, your right crankshaft revolutions is a better way to explain it,or how many times your spark plugs produce spark every minute

what do you mean by 60 second start up? Do you mean from a cold start after 60 seconds?

from a cold start my dc5 idles at about 1800, but comes down quickly. once warmed up it's at 800.
yeah they mean coldstart, the ecu accomodates for the cold engine, raising the rpm at idle to encourage the engine to reach operating temp

well it wouldnt be correct to talk about it in terms of how many times your spark plugs produce spark every minute either.

RPM = REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE = SPEED OF CRANKSHAFT.

not pistons.

not plugs

not water pump

not ANYTHING ELSE.

the spark plugs do not fire EVERY revolution of the crankshaft anyway. additionally, when you are going downhill and there is no load on the engine, the injectors will shut off and there will be no spark whatsoever, so it is not a good indication of engine speed

Thats right :D

same with my car, and 2 other dc5R's i know

 Sounds about right, my DC5S is about the same!
