Hey dudes, im looking at lowering my ek1. What are the different ways i can go about doing it?

And what will i need to replace, will i need to get a whole new demper kit or just the coil overs?

Thanks guys, Chris.

coilovers or springs ur choice.

in short, there are 3 options:

1. change ur springs to lowering springs
2. get aftermarket shocks and springs combo
3. get an aftermarket coilover set

with no 1, u can get king springs for $250-300 a set...however this will damage ur stock shocks faster...with no 2, price range could be from $700-1.5k (estimated) depending on the brand of shocks and springs combo that u're getting...with no 3, prices range from $1.2-2k (estimated) depending on the coilovers brand and model...

most ppl who just go for look would choose no 1 as it is the cheapest option...some others who want comfort drive with (maybe) occassional track use choose option 2...while some hardcore ppl choose option 3 when they want the firmest ride and best handling possible...

Wow thanks for the help man, im thinking of going number 2 but second hand cause i dont have the money atm. What about from ebay, for example these say coilover spring set but just look like springs to me.

What do u think?

they're only springs that are designed for coilovers i think...i'd say just get koni yellows and king springs, i've heard they're pretty good combo...or eibach springs (cost 2x of kings though:()

imo, just get king springs cheaply for now as ur shocks are getting older and will sag sooner or later (not being pessimistic;)) and save up for a coilover set...or if u want, there are some members who sell second hand EK shocks and springs combo:D

example: http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=80113

i myself got a set of DC2R stock shocks and springs, which are compatible with my EG and later on i got tanabe lowering springs, which is 10-15% stiffer than stock springs...love it:thumbsup:

pics:

using stock EG shocks and springs (already sagging cos too old lol)

using stock DC2R shock and springs - slightly lower by about 0.5 inch all round

using DC2R shock and Tanabe DF210 springs - lowers 2" front & 1.8" rear

Thanks mate. Nice pics!

You know any stock suspension kits that will fit the ek and lower by about 1 inch - 1 1/2 inch?

If uve got the money, a half decent set of coilovers will keep you happy, ive got G4 coilovers in mine and u can set it preety damn low and raise it just as good, so if u do happen to get defected its easy to pass it. As well as the handling improvement, corners and roundabouts are much more fun

actually those ebay spring u brought up there act as normal spring but are ajustable just like a coilover. i myself have not used them but i know many that have and i have heard nothing but good. apparently they are quite hard as any coilover is. but they do the job just like any spring. another option u could do is to get the standard springs reset. this cost around 110 a pair so 220 total and u just take them to a buisness that resets springs and they will adjust them to that size. mine is riding on compressed spring currently and it handles fine and is ****in low~! just another option :)
