Speedo /odometer stopped working

Can anyone point me in the right direction to faultfind this problem..
Speedo stopped working whilst driving the other day..
Car is an 86 manual 1.6 SX integra..so far I have pulled the dash and unclipped and reclipped the speedo cable to the speedo..cable appears to be ok, so now I'm totally lost as to what i should try next..
Anyone have any ideas?

what about on the gearbox side?

Looks ok, although i haven't removed it at that end... seemed easier to get in at the dash..does the inner cable lock in at the gearbox?
When I disconnected it at the back of the speedo i was able to pull the inner cable, So not so sure now if it may be broken, or if you are able to slide the inner cable in its sheath.

Remove the Speedo cable drive from the top of the gearbox & inspect the plastic drive gear. If it is damaged or missing, replace the unit.
With age of your car, this is where I’d look 1st

i had similar problem when i had a new exhaust fitted to my supra, (sry its a tad off topic)

but u couldnt tell that it was broken (physically) because it was crushed inside

luckily it was only $20 to replace it.
