im getting down to the sharp end of buying a new car.

Civic Sport is on the list but I need to know the service costs.
The 10,000km cost and whatever the big ones are.

Ive been told by a couple of dealers (in Sydney) its approx $300+oil, twice a year/or every 10,000 km.

Is that right??
And thats the salesguy telling me that so I hope he isnt downplaying the true cost.

Whats the deal with '+oil'. How much do they add on for that?

MAke sure you ask the service department not the sales department, they often have no idea. Sales told me around $250, but I went to the service department they said 10k is $195, 20k + 30k is just over that. I can't remember what he said major service was (40k) I think almost double but would have to check.. That was for the Vti though not the sport and in Melbourne...

i paid $170 for the service itself on 10k service, then I have to pay the oil (depends on the type you choose). And yeah, the salesman doesnt do anything, coz they themself couldnt be bothered to service their car (non-honda car) on the dealer (non-honda dealer of course)

Alrighty *cracks knuckles* here's the run down:

I have a MY06 VTi-L Auto, and I've always had it serviced in Wollongong (so I'd gather these prices would be a little cheaper than in Sydney, but not by much). My records show that:

10,000km: $295.00 (included synthetic oil)
20,000km: $326.92 (included synthetic oil and wiper blade replacement)
30,000km: $377.08 (included synthetic oil and fuel injection service)
40,000km: $TBA - getting it done on Friday, I'll let you know when the feeling gets back into my wallet ;)

The synthetic oil (roughly $80) costs twice as much as the mineral, whether or not it's worth it is up to you.

So there you go, hope it helps your decision making.

I'm feeling rather depressed now I've unearthed how much I've had to pay in service costs over the past 15 months of owning her - there better be a rep point heading my way to cheer me up ;)

wow.

from the first couple of posts ~$200 is ok, but after seeing your exact figures thats crazy expensive. i was quoted from Eastwood Honda, so seems not any cheaper in parts of Sydney.

damn shame. i even bought a carbon fibre replica grill in Bangkok in preparation for buying a Honda.

How much have you guys been paying for the 5000 kms interval services? They are needed to keep warranty right? (I'm almost due for my 1000km service)

Did your dealer throw in a free warranty extension? Those things cost you more money than they're worth. They're service retention schemes.

Service for me in Melbourne (Doncaster) is $200. I buy my own oil and they charge me $160

You guys are paying heaps for what is basically an oil change, add a filter at the 20,000 service.

I have changed my own oil & filter religiously every 5,000 km.....$50 for oil and filter.

40,000k service is basically oil change and filter + tappet adjustment

No I don't have the extended warranty.

I was just wondering whether it was needed or not. By the sounds of it some of you guys don't do the in between 5000kms services.

i was told specifically NOT to change the oil until 10k kms because the oil that comes with the car is some special type for running in the car properly, and that if i did change it then there might be problems down the track.

he coulda made money off me by saying otherwise so i think he was being honest...

oh dude u got ripped (sorry to say but it's true)

u were overcharged on the 10k and 20k.
you did not need the fuel inj service they upsold you on the 30k

for the 40k service there is no logical reason for them to charge you any more than $450-500

if anyone is in melb PM me and i'll look after ya for dealer servicing:)

If people read their service book they will see that it is recommended to change the engine oil every 5,000km under severe operating conditions..........severe operating conditions in the case of oil changes is constant stop/start driving, short trips, etc......regardless of how hard a vehicle is driven. In other words if you drive in the city it is recommended you change oil every 5,000km.

In my case i change the oil approximately every 10 weeks and i don't believe in changing oil without a filter. I also change the Auto trans fluid every 20,000km......bear in mind that when u drain the Auto fluid you can only change about 1/3 of the capacity.

Some people call this over servicing, but the oil is always clean and there will never be any sludge build up internally, this helps with the longevity of engine life.

Yeah, I'm just starting to realise that... talk about learning things the hard way with my first new car...

Thanks for the heads up on the 40k panda, I was expecting around that mark anyway. I'll make noises if the bill goes over that mark.

You should make noises before they even start to write the bill! (i.e. get a quote first)

Honda require that you use nothing but Honda oil. If you dont and something goes wrong, you will have a fight on your hands. Ask me how I know. Read your manual people. Best and cheapest thing you can do is to buy Honda oil and filter from your local dealer, and get it serviced by your local garage where the person servicing your car is a minnimum of 40+ years old. The job will get done much better and at about half the price. Make sure the book gets stamped, and you keep the receipt.
