94 VTI problems

Hi there, i havea 94 accord vti its been my pride and joy for many years and still is however the recent issues i have had with my local honda service center are getting me down. Hopefully someone can help me out or point me int he right direction.

Well basically it all started when i took my car in for a regular service. No problems that i was aware of with the car. Normally a day passes and i pick my car up in the arvo, however this time its not ready and the honda service dont have my car, it is at a local brakes specialist getting and "on car" machine of the dics. I get my car many hours later all seems fine.

Day 2, i start to drive to work and all of a sudden my car pulls hard to the right and comes to a stop i fight it and make it pull off the road.

I find that one of the 2 big bolts that holds my front brake calipers on falls out and is no where to be found i then limp my car home at very slow speed. brake pads stinking good.

I call honda oh shit they say and i demand they come around and get my car so they do the then dodgy up the caliper and drive it to the shop.

1 day later i get a call car is fixed and apparently new brakes and discs are on my car. i think great.

1 week later i hear a feint tinking sound from my front sussy. when i hit a bump it makes the noise. i call honda drop car off and after 3-4 visists they say the slide pins in both front calipers are worn out i am like what that seems very convienient. they then tell me that when the rotors were machined no grease was put on the slide pins so thats whey they were clanging. they grease them up and all is fine for 1 week then the noise comes back but worse. i take it in again and they regrease they do this abotu 3-4 time sthen get shitty at me for bringing it back to them so many times. i get up them a bit and they fix it once more, it was great for about 3-4 months. now its back again.

ARRRRGGGHHH i am not taking my car back to my local honda ever again.

This isnt my only issue after going to honda my brake pedal clunks when touich gently they had replaced master cylinder not long ago. and my brake pads crack when stopping at slow speed like in maccas drive thourgh the pads move and make noises. ( they all go click click click when i stop, sound like an old datto) they say nothing can be done about that.. Like WTF its been fine for 12 years whats wrong now.

anyway can anyone help me out and tell me if i can fix these issues by myself and not have to take it back to honda again cos they are useless.

i have a bit of technical know how so no worries there...

Pretty hard to say anything definite. But if it was me I'd be jacking it up and just giving it a good look over. Make sure all the suspension bolts are done up. Make sure the big axle nut is done up tight. You'd hope honda put the right pads in, but maybe have a bit of a look at them. Check for any freeplay in the brake rotors and calipers. Make sure the rubber boots are still intact on the caliper sliders. The grease they kept putting in had to be going somewhere. If the very first time, they said the sliders are worn, then putting grease in will only ever be a temporary solution. Just get some sliders from a wrecker or something for cheap and give them a go. Hope this helps.

go and make a comlaint, to the MTA and department of consumer and employment. I had similar problems with a dealer once, they sent out an agent to help me out. from now on, keep all of the evidence as it is important if you do need to go to court. it's part of your right to have a safe car after a service, protect it with law.

double check to see if the shims were put back in with the brake pads. A mechanice threw mine out when they replaced the papds and i had the clinking noises aswell until i put new shims back in.

It is pretty hard for anybody to give you an answer without seeing the car, unless som1 has had the exact same problem.

In my opinion, If you are from Sydney go and see Robert at Hannys Performance in Smithfield, He will definately help you out, and will no F**K you around.
I think the real question you should be asking the fellow Honda members, is where they take their cars for a good quality service.
Becuase, I have been f**kd around by a mechanic, and in the end i took it to rob at hannys, and it was blouddy excellent.
If your taking you car to a honda workshop and they arn't doing the job right, you can probably afford to take your car to a mechanic which is used by people who have a similar interests in their hondas.
So my advice, find a DECENT mechanic in your area with the help of ozhonda.com You will probably end up spending less at this mechanic than the stupid price honda would charge you.

hi again thanx for the Feedback i am in Taree NSW, any decent placs you know that have good honda knowlege not bloody commo and Falc drips.

I am not familiar with taree,
but if its not a big drive go to smithfield and see robert at hannys performance, very highly rated.

If your not happy with Manning Valley Motors then I'd suggest Manning Brake Service , though I've never had them do any work on my cars as I do it myself. Manning Brake Service are in Grey Gum Rd and the only brake specialists I know in the Taree area, other than that you might be looking at Forster / Tuncurry. Come to think of it, I think they've changed their name to 'All Brake Service'.
