Hi ppl..

Being a noob about the mechanic side of things, I decided to go the path of doing a DIY swap with the help of a mechanic friend who knows his stuff pretty well. Him being more into Motorcycle stuff, wants me to find out more information about things like valve clearance adjustment and more stuff which i cant really remember.

So i wish u guys can go through in general what steps and specs and information i need when swapping the cams. Coz from what i know, things like valve clearances are important as any misadjustment may *** up the motor.

Pls help me in this as i cant search anything on the forum.

Thanks.

search the DIY section. theres a thread made by ECU-MAN on how to adjust your valve clearances.

Factory spec for the B18C1/5 and B16A is:

Intake: 0.006"-0.007"
Exhaust: 0.007"-0.008"

But i am installing CTR cams into B16a. So i jus use back the same factory spec valve clearances?

I will search DIY as well. Thanks.

just drop them in. Don't really need to adjust valve lash.

I would be more concerned about the existing valve springs' ability to cope with the additional valve lift then the valve lash my fren.

You should install type R valve springs for peace of mind even if you don't go beyond your B16a's stock rev limit.

Go the whole valvetrain as well. TypeR cams are more aggressive than the stocks. You'll have problems with floating (springs don't contract/retract fast enough) up in the higher rev range. Feels like the cars pulling back and a loss of power.

if i remember correctly stock clearances are 1.0-1mm but not too sure about when u put CTR cams in, and as they all said, i think its better to change the valve springs aswell, then u can use the specs of CTR/ITR valve clearance (correction please?)
