does that thing running parallel to the side wall "on left" head up when the car is on? it might be there to stop your carpet from heating up and potentially starting a fire? i haven't a clue but looking at the bit of foam or whatever it is.. makes me think it must have a purpose ifs its there :\:\

ask a few of the crxaus guys dan (damo/phil/jp etc). they used dry ice to get it all out, it's by far the easiest way.
na, i am refering to the plastic and foam thing i am touching in the pic..
not the tar based sound deadener (that is going ofcourse)
i am sure it will be fine to remove.. but i like to check things out before i do things.. prob wont be done for a little while..
:p

Just there to reduce noise and heat.
A fair bit of heat comes in the cabin if removed.
still gonna use carpet and floor mats
so it will prob be ok

< 5kg's.
people in the US claim 19lbs with all the deadener out from the interior
ie, the tar stuff and the foam stuff in my pic..
so they think 8.5kg
if it is 5ish i will be happy

ive got the bag somewhere....i took ALL of the hardened sound deadening
from the floorpan of my EG civic hatch (9kg)
I also removed all the firewall matting (3-4kg) and also removed the thick matting under the carpet (2-3kg)
So for about 9 hrs work i removed about 15kg all up. Add removal of other things and you have a decent free mod ~ increasing your power to weight ratio :)

worth it tho?
i know 15 kg's makes a hell of a difference when tracking it or racing it?? but what are the cons to doing it?

pros = removing any static weight increases your cars maneuverability ~ does nothing for straight line speed mind u.
cons = louder , less comfortable , more chance of rust on the floor pan etc.
what you are holding is the fireawll mat. it stops noise and heat coming from engine bay
that black stuff under it is your sound deadening. same shit but its tar. and stuck onto the car's chassis.
to remove the firewall mat, you need to remove your dashand ripp it out
i have done it and the mat weighs about 4kgs
the sound deadening is there, under your seats, under the passenger rear seats. on the foot wells of the seats, and in your boot where your spare tyre is aswell. remove that using dry ice. or heatgun/

yeh its fine to take out.i took dash out when i did my carb to efi swap and the loom ran behind it so i had to take it out then i didnt reinstall it.
slightly more road noise and heat but i really mean slightly....although why do u want to...thats a pretty small weight save...but yeah i did it
Some of us like the raw engine sound and rattles...makes us feel like rally drivers on the road. LOL.
Yeah, the weight save is small and worth only if you intend to go the whole hog and lighten the car. Which alot of people here do.
I'm pretty sure I can find about 10kg in weight saves around my middle. LOL.

yeah we could all skip maccas this week for a weight save of 5kg lol.
i agree that it does make it feel a bit more 'raw' in the cabin, not overbearingly loud but at 9000rpm it adds to the feeling we pay all our money to get.to get rid of all that padding that you are holding in the 1st post of this thread, the dash needs to be removed though,as it goes up behind the dash to cover all the firewall....or i suppose you can cut it halfway down, and take half out.just giving you a heads up
