Hi,

I threw my timing belt on my 1992 CRX (B16A2 engine) yesterday...

Great christmas present...

I need some advise as to where to go from here...

I know these engines are interference engines so I will have to change over the engine.

What I would like to know is.
What engine should I put in? How much it is likely to cost me? Where can I find an engine? etc

Any help would be of great assistance,

only problem with that is it would end up costing 8-9K and a 1992 crx is only worth 10k

what happened when the belt went?

a snapped belt doesnt always mean bent valves, u may have been lucky..... have u actually had it checked out yet?

Yeah, I've had the car checked.
Was told the motor needed replacing.
Anyhow, It's not free running engine and i was doing about 80K's in 5th through the burnlie(SP) tunnel when the belt went so the valves will be bent.

I'm happy to spend money on the car but spending 9-10k seems excessive.

sell the chassis and get something else if you don't want to do it properly.

surely if you just buy a long motor ie B16A2 engine only no gearbox it shouldn't cost more than say $1500 + install + cost of new timing belt ( good idea ).

and your damaged engine would still be sought after from those who intends to build up a B16A so it would be worth at least $200 anyday, may be more.

you already have everything u need to drop any B-series VTEC motor in there.

you only need the long block (head and Block) as you already have intake, exhaust manifolds, Auxillaries (alternator, starter motor, water pump etc) and not to mention all of your engine mounts, the gearbox/axles and wiring harness etc.

so as others have said allready, u just need a B16 longblock (that is younger than your car) and you can re-use most of your stuff. there's no point getting a half cut as you allready have everything u need.

personally i'd look for a JDM ITR long-block for 3-4k and drop that in there. should only be ~$1,000 for labour as it's a direct swap.. not a hybrid swap.

note: if you use a JDM motor/ECU on your JDM chassis you may need to alter the wiring etc.

fix your exsisting engine

take the head off and get the 4 or so bent valves replaced and have the head inspected and machined. VRS kit and yoru good to go.
