Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum and I am having some troubles with which I think is my gearbox of my DC2-R. A while ago my car started making this sound, sorta like tires scrubbing the guard, but coming from the gearbox. It only happens as you take off and drive slow in gears 1,2 and 3, and also when slowing down in these gears. When you put the clutch in, the sound disappears. Alot of people told me it is the thrust bearing? or something like that, but I had my clutch kit changed a few months ago and its still doing it.

Another noise that started happening about a week ago, which I think is also coming from the gearbox is this weird pinging/rapid rattling noise making it sound like a lawnmower. It only happens when in gear and moving. In neutral, it makes no sound even when revving and also does not make a sound when in gear but stationary. However, as soon as I take off it makes the noise and it occurs through all the gears, however the sound is not as loud in the higher gears. Its especially noticeable when driving next to a wall or something where the sound resonates off.

Your help or advice would be much appreciated guys.

yeh i have same problems with my EH, it IS the gearbox, not the clutch, and i was told 1 of my bearings was broken, u will probly notice that the sounds will start getting louder and louder to a stage that is is ridiculously loud and then is the right time to change the gearbox or have your current one reconditioned.

i get that clicking noise wen u speak of whilst im idling and my foot isnt down on the clutch, also i get a crazy grinding type noise, but i get it from around 2000rpm and up, good thing about mine is i have an exhaust and intake which cover alot of the noise, but my mums previous car had gearbox issues to and obviously she had stock intake and exhaust, and lol the car sounded like a truck before we got the gearbox fixed.

gearbox. two of my mates had to have their bearings changed. if u leave the problem, it will eventually kill the box.

so get it fixed asap. budget for around $500 labour as its a big job. add parts on top.
