Hi guys. Was looking at installing a new intake manifold gasket (one of those hondata ones).
Just looking at it seems like its a real B*tch to get to the back bolts. Anyone know of an easy way to get the bolts off?

if u got the right tools it really isnt a bitch to take off 12mm socket and extrension and patient also get a pen magnet on just icase u drop the nut just make it easier to pick it up.

You have a b16a, right?
If so, it's not really a drama at all... just need the extensions like old mate just said.

If you're running a P72 head with stock manifold... and that fkn horrible bracket underneath it, you'll need tiny, boneless hands to get the fvking thing off :)

Don't get Hondata!!!

These are better and cheaper and from a more renowned company:

It comes with:
- Runners/Head Gasket
- IACV/Plenum Gasket
- TB/Plenum Gasket
- TB Bolt Gaskets
- IACV Bolt Gaskets
- Extended bolts
- TB Coolant Bypass

It's a lot cooler than the Hondata mainly because of the IACV gasket too because coolant goes through there.

I did the skunk2 manifold swap on my P72 B18c in 4 hours...
Take the bracket off to take the nuts off, real simple after that...
The honda gasket was stuck to the head, i used a wood chizzle and peeled it of very carefully...

yes i have it on my car... worked out to be around AU$115 shipped to Australia... and arrived within 5 business days.

The effects are more noticable in winter... where my mate with similar mods has hondata.. his goes hot where mine stays warm.

yeah already brought the intake gasket, was abit trigger happy at the time

dsp26 - you've confused me are we taking about the same thing? I'm only taking about those plastic gaskets not the entire throttle assembly

yep only the gaskets... it comes with so many for the right spots that you actually notice the difference. I strongly urge you to sell the hondata one :p

think about it...

Runners/Head Gasket - limits heat transfer from head to plenum
IACV/Plenum Gasket - limits heat transfer to plenum from the IACV which gets damn hot from coolant
TB/Plenum Gasket - keeps TB cool despite the coolant bypass
TB Bolt Gaskets - another point of heat transfer despite the above
IACV Bolt Gaskets - this ones also important as the bolts still get heated by the IACV and still transfer to the plenum
Extended bolts
TB Coolant Bypass - we all know what this is... it's just a double ended nipple to connect the 2 hoses connected to the FITV


As you can tell the kit is overkill for intake cooling... but i'm sure you will agree that this is the absolute companion to a CAI and at ~AU$115 shipped for the lot... why not??

fair enough.

but yeah, ratchet spanners are good.... smallish but stong ratchet with a long arse extension and skinny arms are mandatory...

A member on here installed mine for me (Samo) and watched him do it.... twas easy the next time around for me to take off since i didn't have the pure unadulterated mass he had on his arms :p

just for thought - i have a no-name Intake manifold gasket on my B series (from EG5) and it DOES do something...the intake manifold remains quite cool under normal driving and spirited driving , compared to before. The heat transfer thru aluminium is quite drastic.

Whether this cooler intake does anything for a stock engine i doubt it.
All it does is let me rest my can of coke on the manifold while the engine is hot?!?
But for modded guys on here it may be a necessary link in a chain for your car to achieve higher power

LOL... That gets my vote for the quote of the day... :thumbsup:
Just incase you want to be sure your drink stays cool...
You'd best fit one of these gaskets so you can rest your cold drink on a hot engine with confidence..

eheh. Its true tho , on a stock engine there is no point :) Perhaps a turboed or highly strung NA application might benefit from the reduced (?!) intake charge.
