Hi all,
my beloved ED civic aka Btek just got collected by a garbo truck this morning and its a write off... so im looking for a replacement. I am a nooob to civics but i would like to get either a fairly stock cars...
id like to think that Vtech is a must so i was thinking either EG or EK (dreaming ).
got a budget or around 5k, but obviously the cheaper the better :D

any recommendation what to look for etc?
hows the auto compared to manual?
is the EK VTIR a lot quicker than the ED VTI?
is the Vtech ED worth the money on top of a non Vtech?
sorry bout the noob questions.

ive seen a few EG on the for sale thread but theyre out of my budget :p

the eg vti for ur budget i would recommend because ek vtir is around 10-15k ? and eg vti can get around 5-8, and if talkin speed wise n everything, the eg vti isnt far off the ek vtir, vtir just feels faster (talking about straight roads. Twisties the eg vti not a problem depending on driver). The eg Si which is twin cam non vtec, isnt too bad, and i am a bit confused about this one because i got 2 friends with it, and 1 is slow as poo like me n 5th he in 3rd takes him a while to get past me, and another friend who has one (a bit more mods but just mainly breathing and advanced timing) and he goes straight past me when im in 5th and hes in 3rd big difference .. so yea lolz

also .. if u do a lil search on this site, there is heapz of info on the potentials of the eg vti (or the D series engine in general ..) .. so have a look around matey :)

thanks for the reply, thats helped me heaps :)

now... sedan or hatch bak!

andiiso
25-12-2007, 05:09 PM
personally i prefer hatchback for both performance nd looks wise, but for VTIR's the coupe itself isnt bad, when i said the eg vti wasnt far off the ek vtir i was talking about both hatchback, if sedan, the weight differences will make a huge difference in performance etc. So in my preference HATCHBACK FTW :p

hatchbak it is... i think ive pretty much made up my mind hehee.

no SI came in DOHC non-vtec

Vtec is much better in the VTI-R, DOHC VTI-R, anything else is just not really vtec.
Take a few test drives you'll see what i mean

yer anything else is just not realli anything compared to DOHC VTEC like VtiR etc, but thats only wat it feels like when driving, but with statistics n times etc, its not a GREAT difference (taking in mind the power to weight ratio aswell)

find me a 15 yr old car that keeps as well as a honda civic or whatnot.
Or the same condition inside and out. Or that still works like a honda.

well it depends how you look after them and the conditions you first buy it
my sister bought her corolla in 2002, and no problems at all till this day its still up and running in good condition!
and its in mint condition no interior has falling apart, km is still around the 160km
for a car that old. and engine runs fine as! aircon is cold as to.
but it just depends on the condition of the car and how you take care of it.

the interior condition can be mint in any car as long as its taken care of. but with the average use and wear which is more durable??

here you go..
info on the different models with performance figures of them in stock form.
I seen a 94 Gli hatch for sale on here for $5k i think.. perfect
VTi IMO is the best of the EG models in stock form. You can make up your own mind after checking this link.

If you read his initial post, he mentions he has a budget of $5k.
So how is he going to buy an EG or EK with a B/H/K series engine.

Nan the breeze is way over priced for that it is coz all the modders buy em..

He should scrape 2k more and try for an EG SI or VTI if he's lucky.

All power op's plus very cheap front brake upgrade down the track due to have rear discs already

Actually the SX is just the earlier model and the GTI is the rebadged later model. Only difference is a slight adjustment in the bumper. So its actually the GTI which is the wannabe. I use to own one

In relation the the EG, i like the SI model, the DOHC engine that i saw was heaps better than the VTI model.

For your budget there isn't much left

Depends if he wants to mod the car.

VTi has more options such as sunroof etc doesnt it?
If its purely for a daily driver with no plans to mod then this may be a better option for creature comforts, possibly a GLi. All depends what the guy is after.

Any EFi EG is easily modded..
