Problems installing System into EG Civic Hatch

So mate and I spent all day (literally) removing my system from my old car (DC2) and putting it into EG. Previous DC2 install was done professional, but I felt like learning a thing or two.

Two quick questions!!


1. Wheres the BEST place to ground in the boot? Our Amp ground cable was only small, so tomorrow we're going to go into Northfield and buy a bigger one (bigger circle on the end). I was thinking grounding it against the rear seat belt locks under rear seat after filling it back? For testing we found it very hard to find a decent ground.

2. How do you run decent cabling for the splits at the front? Either we reuse the existing cable (for $700 DA speakers??) into the Split Box then into the splits and tweeters? Wouldn't it be better to run it better cable directly from amp, through doors into Split box? But if so, how the hell do you run the bigger guage speaker cables through the door? It looks like an impossible tasks without completely dismantling everything?

Without finding a way to easily run the speaker cable through the doors, we'll bring the amp back into the dash harness and reuse the existing small speaker cables? Is this bad for for SQ/SPL/Decent sound on expensive speakers?

Everything else, HU, running cables, powers etc was fine.

Grounds = Important
Alpine 9831 doesn't send sound out wires when RCA's are in.

1. where is ur amp mounted? any pics?
2. tuck it in thru factory wiring loom.

1. Where you said it a good place IMO. There's already a bolt / hole there so why not use it...just file the area.

2. Go through the factory loom...pull off the rubber boot...the wires may be going through a plastic plug. From memory there's enough space in this plug to drill a hole to fit your new speaker wire.

you shouldnt mount the crossover in the door(i assume thats what you mean when you say split box). You would be surprised how much water gets into the inside skeleton of your door behind the door trim.after just a week of having my crossovers in the door they had started rusting up,mount them under the dash somewhere then cable through the rubber boot in the door to the speakers

Thats the problem though, I would happily do that but cabling through the rubber boot on the door in the EG Hatch is impossible.

I suppose my question is, how do you cable through the rubber boot? Do you have to rip the dash out?

You pull the rubber boot off the end at the door jam and the door itself and feed the wire through then push back when done.

oh yeah i get what your saying,its hard to get to hey...if i remember correctly when i was doing my system i had the front quarter panels off and that gave easy access to the rubber boot...bit off a pain to get quarter panels off and then you have to line them up again at end,but much easier than taking dash out....you can be a lil dodgy and not go through the boot,but yeah for a good install i recommend trying the quarter panel off solution

I reckon the best place to ground it will be the 10mm bolt that is mounted together with the rear seat (Bottom seat) on the chassis. If you lift your boot carpet up and look forward, you will see it

and make sure to sand all of the paint off where ever you decide to ground it. get it so its shiny bare metal!

Grounding was easy. I filled a bit of the boot down, near a seatbelt bolt. Then used a self drilling screen and grounded it. Perfect :thumbsup:

As I said my main problem is feeding speaker wires through the door rubber boot. I'll give it another go maybe this weekend.

true after washing my car regualry i notcied one day my driver side speaker stopped wokring becoz water had gotten into the side of the door causing the cabling to get wet

I think I might have to get Northfield Moorooka to remount the splitters in the boot and run new wiring through the doors for the fronts. And maybe even sound deaden the front doors (I don't wanna interfere with the alarm/central locking) but still want decent sounding solid doors.
