hey all,

might sound like an odd question but wtf...

"is it possible to blow your fuse in the engine bay whilst driving :|"

car : ek hatch

im running;
Pioneer head "DEH-P8950BT"
Alpine PDX mono 1000rms rated.. birth sheet says more
Kicker L7 750rms rated..

my mono is sitting flat cos warranty requires it to.. its bolted to my fake floor in the boot and none of the many fuses on the back of the amp are blown. all my wiring is perfect and there was no chance there could have been a short from one coming loose or something..

i had a feeling i was running the wrong sort of fuse in the engine bay?? the one i had i payed $5 for and it lasted me through 3 different amps and 4 different subs.. i think it might have been 40 amps?? im not sure it was a while ago but i bought it from an audio place.. and i got 2 of them so the spare is in atm..

this isnt going to make sense but.. try work out what im trying to say..

i remember being told that i needed to add the number of the the fuses, like the green fuses i have, have 30 written on the back of them and i have 4 of them so 120.. and that is the ampage u need for the fuse in the engine bay.. or something.. like i had to match the number with the fuse??? im confused when it comes to this stuff..

but yeah.. this really scared me cos i was just driving along and suddenly no bass.. i was like ****! the speaker wire fell out from the sub again.. or something along those lines cos the wire is too fat for the port on the side of the box where u attach the + and - terminals.. but i pulled over and nothing was wrong with the wiring.. but i popped my boot and BANG the fuse was frizzled..

i don't want this to happen again so like.. i'd rather live without bass for a while and get some feed back from u guys.. before i put my amp and sub back in my car.. cos i don't wanna blow the amp.. really wouldn't wanna do that.

any suggestions will be taken into consideration and looked at :)

haven't yet taken my car to the audio shop cos they are closed for ny's

mm
btw. happy new years

ok with da engine fuse, since da back of ur amp is 120 total u should use a fuse thats less than that.

on my amp it has 2x30 amps fuse and i use a 50amp agu fuse and runs perfectly.

u sure? cos the amount of fuses on the back of mine are might make it a different case :\

i put my amp and sub back in with a 50 amp gauge.. the other day.. and it runs ok.. but im just wondering if its just going to happen again cos i don't want to keep buying more and more fuses for the engine bay..

like basically, the only way i can think of blowing the engine bay fuse is if there is a short circuit within the wiring, there is a problem with the internals of the amp, protection light comes on.., or a like the power touches the ground or something.. etc...

For the Alpine amps you need to run atleast A 100 amp fuse or more.
