Hey,

was wondering if anybody had any experience installing new valve seats, guides?

Rough prices?

Is it possible to machine an OEM valve 1mm undersize, without ruining the seat hardness?

Is it possible to install 1mm oversize valves without installing new seats?
Is it possible to install 1mm UNDERSIZE valves without installing new seats?

Does anybody have the tooling to install bronze valve guide liners locally?

Target is D16, so a I guess it's a bit price sensitive.

Nick.

What engine? D16 what? single cam? twin cam? vtec?

Also what is your goal ? what cams you going to run? what comp?

If its a standard rebuild then leave it standard valve. Pm if you want those services.

Hi guys,

Is it possible to machine an OEM valve 1mm undersize, without ruining the seat hardness?
Yes & no...
The seat hardness isn't the problem,
With a 1mm oversize valve the amount of seat material left is generally the issue.
With very little material left, the minimal heat path can cause the seat to fail (burn out) & or drop.
That said, with careful machining, it can be done.

Is it possible to install 1mm oversize valves without installing new seats?
Again, yes & no.
Normally we wouldn't go larger than +0.5mm using the standard valve seat for reasons explained above.
Fitting new seats isn't a major issue, but it isn't a cheap exersise & may not be economical for a road engine. (Cost vs gains)

Is it possible to install 1mm UNDERSIZE valves without installing new seats?
Yes, I imagine it would be possible, but I would also say it would not advisable as the valve head will become overly recessed into the head where the smaller seat would have to be cut.
To be honest, we've never reduced the valve size from stock, only same or larger.

Does anybody have the tooling to install bronze valve guide liners locally?
If you're talking about K-Line inserts, yes, they are commonly available & relatively inexpensive.
Aftermarket valve guides for the D-series are not so common.

If the existing guides in the head can be saved via K-line or re-used as is, this is best. Particularly if you're going to be changing the seats.
(It's nice to have the original guide to line up the new seat cut)
Plus, this will save on total expense.

Hope that helps
Cheers
