If I end up buying a Civic with this unfortunate black line through the side
Is it possible to repaint it white myself? :P &what exactly would I use?

most simple and cheap way would be via a can of spray paint, lots of news paper, sand paper and tape

I think the strips more or less plastic, would sand paper be a good idea? lol :P
Plus what spray paint? Still want it to replicate the glossiness of the white exterior

more then likely

and yeah a light grit of sandpaper would be advised....

if you really wanted to go into details id also suggest primer

dunno about the spray paint...

krayola or something like that is really good (friend sprayed his car purely with it and it looks schmik)

If I were you Id take the trims off the car.

Then use 600 - 800 grit sand paper and rub untill there is a flat finish on the plastic.

If you want to use spray paint I suggest montana or belton. You wont find these at your local hardware store.

If not use plastic primer through a spray gun. Let it dry for roughly 12hours (see label on product) Rub it down once again untill flat, then either use white basecoat and acrylic or 2pac clear, or get the white in a 2k solid which doesnt need clear, but takes longer to dry (2pac).

take them off and get a spray shop to do them. THe finish will be heaps better than what you will be able to do. Otherwise Oxer's solution seems the right track. Plastic primer is not cheap and neither is the paint.
