fuel pump wont do nothing

injectors will cost $500 and if he gets bigger ones he'll flood his motor

ecu to tune a stock n/a D series is pointless

> just buy an ASR brace and a CTR sway bar

x3!

Yonas at JDMYard usually has a pile of CTR sways bars with end links.

Alternative is a 14mm rear sway from an EK4. visit your favourite honda wrecker.
No need for sub-frame brace with the 14mm rear sway.

> 98 cxi hatch

You'll need a 26mm front sway to match it.

Look at same generation CR-V at wreckers

Get some new Superpro sway bar bushes to maximize its effectiveness.

Poly motor mounts. Once you get a bit of wheel hop, you'll thank me.
cheap-o Ebay torque arm, tighen it up good and put up with the cabin vibration.

http://www.familyonboard.com/media/sunshine_kids_super_lock.jpg

Child seat restraint/seat belt clamp lock thingie. $8 at Repco.
Best bang-for buck.
Place it on your selt belt, to lock out the slack. Tighten it up real good.
You'll need a deep breath and time to get used to driving without squirming
around in the seat.
Ghetto racing harness, as long as you can put up with the constant tension.

A stock EK civic can generate a fair bit of G force, which you'll never realize cause the OEM seat belt allows so much freedom.

> already have a RAM intake

Sell it.
Eat Maggi noodles for a month, and cut out the booze/smokes. Yes you can do it.
Then buy some good rubber.

Once, you'be been bitten by the bug, start saving for an OBX LSD.

Nick.

put the money towards a b16a conversion

BTW you missed a set of coilovers in the above option.
All that sussy work without coilovers???

For limited budget improvements, I would advise good quality brake pads. Race- spec items will designate more performance than street grade pad's but should only be installed if you are planning to use your car frequently at a circuit as they need to be heated up first before they are at optimal operating temperatures. Either that or save up your money for some good high performance tires or a complete coilover system.

hey bro, what is the sway bar used for? there a front and rear.

they are used front and rear..
depending on what size and how you set it all up etc then it can alter under/oversteer.

They connect from one side of your car on the lower control arms to the other side at the same point and are used for reducing body roll.

Can also be referred to as a stab/stabilizer bar.

ok.....well all that has been stated above were all great ideas...

im not going to venture far from these suggestions :(

i say coilovers/suspension mods, save for b16 (you'd be a 1/3 of the way) but if you have enough after the suspension mods id say bigger brakes (brakes and suspension go in hand my friend)

if i were you id go for the coilovers

Save the money and buy coilovers. Dont waste any money on the D series.

teh_mechanic

Get some iginition leads and a 2nd hand msn ignition module

thats not good advice...hed be better of spending the money on $500 worth of spoon and mugen stickers then that....explanation:

electricity is lazy,it will choose the easiest path it can to get to ground. This is why the electricity from your coil travels through your leads and jumps the gap at the bottom of the spark plug to make a spark instead of jumping through the rubber surround of your leads or anywhere else. If it only needs 10000 volts to jump the spark plug gap,but your super mad sik bro drift msd ignition can put out 20000 volts, it will still only use 10000 volts to jump the gap. The main reason people upgrade ignition components (besides wank factor, which is what you have recommended him) is because they have increased compression in the cylinder (through internal modifications or very high rpm),which makes it harder for the spark to jump the gap in the spark plug, therefore they need upgraded ignition to make a stronger spark........so as you can see,its a waste of money on a basically stock d series engine

IMO if your just using your car for the street, you dont need coilovers, do your research and get a shock and spring setup with the spring rate matched to the shock (which you will work out through research). Theres no use spending $1500 on coilovers that have 32 damping adjustments when your basically never going to adjust them

Speaking from experience,my MSD Ignition System on a lightly modified d-series (Intake + exhaust) was a great mod.It made the car run, feel so much smoother. It made it a much more pleasing car to drive. No real power gains as such but SMOOOOOOTH :)
After I put Headers and re-done the whole exhaust I'm sure there was more benefit.
It's not a power adder and that's where people misunderstand the MSD set up.I bought it when I was a noob thinking I will get some nice power from it.That wasn't the case but what I got from it made it one of the best if not the best mod I have done to my car.

cool, maybe it is worth a shot then, going on my rant up there about if it only needs 10000volts it only uses 10000volts (which is true) i cant explain why it makes it smoother, but i have heard from people that it does, never tried it myself...give it a go though, smoothing the d out is probably a better option than trying to make it fast anyway.i still think you should go suspension though.

beeza
05-01-2008, 10:45 AM
Nice one mate! Most just bag the MSD...
I agree too,1st do the suspension. It's not worth trying to make the y4 go fast cause you will never achieve it.No body makes aftermarket cams for the y4,but saying that in the states,'bisimoto (http://youtube.com/results?search_query=bisimoto)' has just made a cam for the y7 which may be compatable with the y4....
If anyone wants to contact him you can PM him on d-series.org.He is random on there but, sometimes he's on often and then he wont log on for 2 months.Just ask the guys on there for his phone number, they all regulary talk to him.He has the fastest d-series SOHC in the world.

Save more $$. This $500 bucks would only at best get u a Xforce canon catback. Give u maybe 5hp and ur car still be slow. No offence but it is.

Best bet. Save another $500 to make it $1000 get some decent coilovers. At least ur car look gangstar for the moment and nice n low with gd handling ability.

Then on, save every single cent you have to get a B18C or B18CR into it. Looking at $6k engine and $1k install. Not really sure. Eat bread and drink water if u have to. After that, you will have an EK B18CR that will eat many cars alive which will feel up ur empty stomach. Haha. But seriously, dun waste the $500 and wanna do something marginal now and have to start saving for that engine conversion all over again.

Keep saving and keep researching and looking for ur engine. Gd luck.

haha... why, is it IMPOSSIBLE?

I dropped a bullfrog cam in a d15 dual port crx, not even with new valve springs...

it raped the shit out of mini me's (d16 w/ vtec), all day long! and it lasted quite a while. maybe the reason it didnt work for you is because of the mechanic/you, NOT because of the type of build... and if you have never tried it, WTF are you quoting me?!?!... :zip:

you dont need a bigger exhaust or an ecu for cams but an upgraded valvetrain helps, he asked for a simple/cheap mod to better his cars performance, for under $500... this is exactly that :p

being a cxi, front chassis brace, ek4 rear sway and you could probably find a used set of stickier tyres with the left over change
i'd say that'd give you the best mods for under $500, and it'd be something you could actually feel rather than make it sound faster
