What exhaust systems is everybody running?

I did a search and alot of people seem to sticking with the stock exhaust... so for those of you who decided not to be tight and got something aftermarket what did you buy?

I'm looking into the Tanabe Concept G, i'm not really into the whole titanium exhaust look and this looks pretty good.

Invidia V3

Damn... too bad your off the road for a bit your pretty local, wouldn't mind hearing the Invidia exhaust this was next on my list then the T1R sparrow. Personally I don't really want a really loud exhaust system thats why I'll most likely get the Tanabe... the smaller piping won't really help when I get a supercharger though

ludecrs
02-01-2008, 08:02 PM
Its loud, so I wouldn't recommend it if you want to avoid that factor.

I'm rather local yer. I work in Wollongabba but used to travel as far north as Alderley through to Nerang, depending on the occassion.

Bye, bye the idea of Invidia then... heard the mugen item is quiet but I like the look of the Tanabe so I'll end up buying that.

personally if i were to get an aftermarket exhaust for the S2K id get a titanium single outlet one. I had an ARC single outlet full titanium in the past and it was awesome! only gripe was it was hella loud inside the car but outside wasnt that bad, had a very nice sound to it.

Furthermore, apart from the minute gains a single titanium offers excellent weight loss. I could literally hold up the entire ARC exhaust system with a couple of fingers.

Main probably with that exhaust due to being angled is especially if your car is lowered beyond 2.5" it will scrape the road from time to time. I wouldnt mind getting a J's 60RS but not too sure how it would sit.

vyets
03-01-2008, 11:05 PM
LOL, I knew about fortyone when I needed celica parts :P Then I realised they stock up J's racing parts.

J's 60RS gives decent gains, not as much as 70RS, but 70RS is more expensive and alot louder, If you want the best gains 70RR is best, which is the headerback.

What about the ASM single? It's not cannon type. Looks very nice titanium as well.

I got axle back custom made exhaust, made by exhaust torqe in perth, I'm pretty happy with this, it has nice sound and when vtec kicks in it sounds like a race car, it has that drone around 3000rpms that most of people get with S2Ks but than again I don't mind it, thing I like a lot about this custom made zorst is the look, it looks same like stock just a bit bigger tips, they also made connector so it's pretty easy to swap them over, by the way cost me $500

ps performance wise I think the revs pick up a bit quicker (top end), forgot to say that I also removed big resonator that honda put there.

Its been 5 months and 3wks since I've driven it, but I recall it being quite loud.... Droned at 3,8 - > 5,3 (which is primary highway rpm). If you held it still at 5,5 it was dead silent though. Don't get me wrong, it sounds awesome, but its loud.

I'll have to get one of the fellow S2000 owners to video tape the sound at the upcoming QLD Honda Meet.

what if you sprayed them black they wouldn't be noticeable, just spray it with eg. White Knight Rust guard spray which is a metal primer and finish coat all in one 2 coats of that in black and you wont see them.

Did you get any good pictures from last night? Some people have been asking to see my new front bar, headlights and side mirrors. But I didn't take a camera last night.

Also thanks for letting me take 'VTEC' for a spin last night, feels like the headers / exhaust combo adds decent HP according to my bum dyno. Can't wait for you to get the S/C in :p

Took some photos at first, but the battery died when I was adjusting to the night settings. I'll take some next time for sure - and I'll bring along a charged up battery too :zip: .

I farking LOVE your bumper, the whole car flows so well.

Yes, the S/c, you saw it in the boot didn't you? Have to wait another 2wks for its delivery for the aftercooler unit, then I'll go about installing it. In between then and now, I'll see if I can arrange to get my glass window roof put on.

The intake / headers / test pipe / exhaust setup make a gain of about 6-12rwhp over the stock s2k when I dynoed before installing the test pipe and headers. I noticed it on the butt dyno after installation too. Glad others do too, which means its not just all in my head placebo-like. haha.

Shot us a PM with your details, and we'll catch up at the next meet

I have found a supplier in Perth that can Supply me a HKS Hi-Power Exhaust.
These seem like a good alternative to a stock as its a relatively low drone exhaust, if any at all. And they sound great.
Not many people can get exhausts for S2000's here so there aren't many options unless I import one in myself :(

Anyway.
I have been doing a bit of reading on these and from S2KI forums, I hear that the HKS actually loses power over the stock exhaust?
Has anyone had any experiences with this particular exhaust and can anyone confirm that this is the case?
It seems hard to believe that a HKS exhaust will actually cause you to lose power over a stock one :(

I really don't want to waste my money on an exhaust if it's going to give me less power than a stock one. I'd be pretty pissed if that was the case :P

Any information/advice would be great. Thanks.

how much btw are you getting the HKS system for?

BLKS2000WA

I've been quoted $1300 installed for a HKS Dual Hi-Power for the S2k.
Or $1000 for a HKS Mild Steel one.

its about a grand to bring here from the states, whats the $300 bucks for ontop? it would take 2 hours to put on, normal mechanic will charge about $70 per hour.

so realistically it should only cost you $1140 no more then $1200..

Yes but this still doesn't answer or give me proof that the HKS Exhaust loses power over a stock one.

I don't want to waste my money on one that decreases performance.
If I had to import one it, it wouldn't be a HKS one anyway.

I've only come accross one dyno graph on S2ki, awhile back which showed the HKS dual lose power, it was awhile ago and I was searching for it but could not find it for you.1.3k installed? You could Install it yourself and save some bucks :P. 1.3k is still expensive, AJ-Racing in the usa can get their modified 2 piece version of the 60FXRS landed here for about 1.4k last time I got a quote anyway. It will make more power then the HKS and is also lighter. But you don't want to import one do you?

If you want a local one try some 2nd hand ones, like the Spoon n1 for sale on ebay, but its a single if you want dual get the BYS that FLY's selling. If you want brand new try jdm concept they can get just about anything.

When you say exhaust does this include headers? The reason I asked is because I already have some HKS 4 into 1 headers, now I am just looking for the rest of the system........still undecided. I was just going to make a twin straight through no resonators, just two straight through mufflers at the rear. I am not worried too much with noise/drone, I can always bolt the stock one back on if I get pulled over. I just don't want it to sound like a fart can, a nice deep note and loud is fine. On my 94 CRX I ran 2.25, straight through resonator and muffler but I have no experience with the S2K.

Thanks,

Yeah. I don't think there are any power gains really, but it looks nice and it is meant to sound pretty good too. It's pretty hard to get much more out of these cars from what I can see. And by hard I mean $$$$$$ expensive :eek:. Guess it shows how good Honda got this one straight out of the box. It will save weight as well I guess. There was a Titanium cat back too but we had a bad storm down here and my Internet died!!!!!:thumbdwn::thumbdwn:

I appreciate the help here, I mainly have vintage air cooled Hondas in the garage, and a 1G JDM CRX so my experience with the S2K is minimal.

Is there a reason why?

Why would you recommend those 4 brands? Is it because they are more expensive than other brands?

They have a bigger jdm wank factor?

I bought the HKS exhaust because it looked great, sounded damn awesome and was half the price of all the other exhausts.

If ur looking for any particular gains from simply changing your catback exhaust ur dreaming AND u should save ur money up for a SC or turbo kit.

Changing a cat back exhaust may add a few hp MAX, which you definately WON't feel. The feeling that u think ur going faster is prolly cos u SOUND like ur going faster. I bought the HKS exhaust and tested it against my other friend's s2k, no real change. Was I dissappointed??? No.... cos gawd damn it sounded great.

So dream on if u think buying an exhaust is going to make ur s2k light speed.

There is so little left on the table that you can't expect much from an exhaust.

"Dyno proven, website says so" just proves you're dealing with a disreputable company and gullibly accepting their marketing hype.

As for test pipes, yeah you can pick up a couple of hp and the fine is only $10K so go for it.;)

10K???? Thats a bargain. I had a "test pipe" on my CRX and nearly got caught. Thought it was BS but yeah got EPA for noise and did the swap before I went for the db test.

I know there is really not much to gain, just want something durable and not go backwards in HP!!!! Figured anything is a bonus.

Shipping from USA by Vendor in s2ki generally varies from 250-300 so you won't find a cheaper quote from vendor.

Berk Exhaust only weights about 12-13 kg if I'm not wrong because there is no resonator and the use of lightweight titanium mufflers :)

I did a search and found one regarding an AP2 but I've got an AP1. Can anyone lead me in the right direction? Namely the name of the freakin exhaust. I want to find out how much it costs and see what gains there are (as little as that may be).

Does it matter if an AP2 exhaust is on an AP1?

I'm currently in the process of working out the modifications I want and pricing so I can set a goal and budget.

No video clip.

The noise from the exhaust makes the camera shake, and lens break. :p

vyets,

So is that the new Mugen vs the old Mugen exhaust? Do they have specific names or item#? Want to do more research on them including price etc.

And secondly, no gains? WTF? I'll just stay stock because I like the quiet sound and I can save money.

Btw, great post, very helpful. You are legend.

There's a old type mugen exhaust and a new type they look different don't know anything else. Haven't really looked into them because I'm not a fan. If you want power go 70mm single exhaust, most duals will give you crap to no gains. And if you ever want to upgrade too F.I you can keep it! Most 70mm are loud except the t1r LM dolphin dip which is what I want. It's very ugly but LOL

There's Berk Exhaust clips on youtube eritkufa

I know it's running a TP and header, but it'll give a rough idea.

Johnny from on the run motorsports in Vic can get the mugen in, I think I got quoted around $3k last ages ago...so not cheap.

N/A gains are very minimal on the s2000, as vyet said, 70mm single, T1R 70mm EM, ASM 70mm single, Greddy TiC 70mm single etc.

I came to the same conclusion. When I went turbo I just had a 75mm single. It was loud and obnoxious in both sound and appearance.

The Invidia V3 twin with a larger mid damper is the ideal exhaust for my set up.

i just got twin varex 4" cannon styles but on with a stainless 2.5" pipe conversion after the Y join. i love the sound, but there is a bit of drone on the low rpm with it fully open. I normally just have it 30% open for daily.

HKS Hi Flow

From tuning a few f20c with and without exhaust the conclusion is the factory OEM exhaust flows very well. I've seen the HKS HIFLOW (pm if you want to buy it, its done less then 500km) exhaust which has the same diameter piping as AP2 exhaust, slightly bigger piping Y pipes and round cannon like mufflers.

If you want noise then yeah go ahead and spend 1-1.5k on a aftermarket exhaust. The factory exhaust are well tuned and are capable of flowing with engine making up too 300kw atw (FI).

have a J's racing 70 rs duel.

you want quiet, put the silencers in.... or buy a toyota echo.

if you buying an exhaust for the look its a bit of a waste.... you buy an exhaust for power increase.

run a nice exhaust and run silencers for the street if u want to be quiet.

my old skunk 2 use to set off car alarms.... but put silencers in and was not bad at all.

T1r make a nice exhaust... but for some reason i like J's

fatboyz i have never seen a stock exhaust flow that well with a tune... i must have a shitty tuner.... i'd love to see dyno sheets if you have any?

i feel that the stock exhaust was VERY restrictive.... and the stock cat!... that must go IMO.... run a berk 70mm or if track use just a TP.... thats where you gain some good power... and then if u tune also, you will be surprised...

Then you should have bought a single :P

Stock S2000 Exhaust flows very well which is why alot of aftermarket exhaust out there struggle to make much more power then the stock setup. Didn't think it would be able to handle upto 300kw but now you got me interested, pig power setup but with stock exhaust is quite the sleeper.

i wanted to go single but every talked me out of it because they said that its stoll going to be a street car and to keep it looking somewhat oriiginal.. not have the AP2 bumper with one massive hole in it... i didnt care but everyone made me do it... i fell for their BS... worst mistake ever!!!!

I had two singles. First was a Kakimoto N1. It was ear splittingly obnoxiously loud. I put a silencer in it and lost all the high flow benefits. Went back to a dual.

Then when I went turbo I was getting to the end of my budget so had a 75mm single with a cannon muffler made. And I brought a single exhaust cap back from New York to make it look better.

Eventually wised up and bought an Invidia V3 which had been modified with a big Lukey mid muffler. The thing flows, looks good and is nice and subtle when pootling around but has nice sound when I get on it.

My neighbour asked me the other day if I had sold the car as they hadn't 'heard' it in a while. ;)

i've got js 70rs titanium single - its pretty annoyingly loud with that bad drone between 3-4k RPM, however for driving daily around local areas you can probably stay under 3k RPM and it's not too bad at all, but highway driving with this exhaust is a serious pain and i dont doubt that my ear drums are slowly getting damaged everytime im cruising around 80+ km/h

that being said, the exhaust sounds awesome when opened up and it is very light as well if weight is something you're considering

This was a AP2, are AP1 and AP2 share the same diameter exhaust/mufflers besides the tips?

Stock cat (AP2) was good up too 260kw, so as i said the OEM items flows nicely. Changing the exhaust to 70mm (bigger then OEM) it will gain power on WOT, you will tend to lose some part throttle.

I've got a Fujitsubo legias r and love it. Slightly louder than stock and sounds a little deeper than stock it's a dual and looks pretty good, the only thing I don't like are the tips of the muffler could be a little shorter, I've been tempted to chop them back a little but trying to get a nice neat cut on them could be hard
