My Euro has a US sized mount, with a European sized mount over that, with a AU size plate in it, and oddly enough it all looks like shit.

The 2007 cars I see in pics have a neat AU sized mount... can this be fitted to the 2005 bumper?

I hear you!! I'd be interested to know this also!

PS. It blocks a fair portion of the air scoop as well...

I've got an 06 and yes it's ugly.I removed the holder and cut approx.1/3rd of it off and sanded it back with a bit of fine grade wet and dry.BTW i've got slimline premium plates.

mine had the huge ass japanese holder on it... used to be like double the size of my number plate! i cut it down to size and sanded off with wet'n'dry too... then i sprayed it metallic silver (match my car) and clear coated it... looks sexy now :D

i took the plastic thing off and just re drilled the number plate - it sits flush on a 1mm thick foam plate so it doesnt scratch the bar.

Well, I took it all apart and had a look.

I decided to throw out the European shaped moulding, and then trimmed down the US moulding so that it had no flange on it, and trimmed the bottom so it was ~20mm short of the bottom of the AU plate. I sanded it all down so that it was smooth and square, and then coated it a couple of times with Moto spray matt black paint to hide the sanding marks.

Conveniently the US mount has perforation lines around the edge of the flange making it easy to trim off with tin-snips or a sharp hobby knife.

Looks good!

i've tried to do somethin with the stock holder, but it seems to be hard. i might try other option later on.. i still want to move the plate somwhere.. lolz

SRVTIR

this is the best option and the cheapest i reckon.

just get a thin peice of foam - somthing like a bar of double sided tape but without the stickness lol - i got mine from repco..

then you just drill the holes through the plate.. looks good from a distance..

coz the plate is so low.. :) just an idea if you guys consider this is an option

Yeah, I thought of re-drilling the plate too, but I would have put the holes in the middle of the plate so that it ended up at the correct height, but still I didn't like how the plate curved, and the screws would have been ugly.

You can buy holders for the premium plate size from auto shops; probably better than modifying the original holder. Plus the plate is protected within the holder so it doesnt deteriorate, and comes with padding etc..

The front of the car is curved, therefore the after market holders wont fit all that well. Also the holes in the bumper itself are too low for a typical AU plate, leaving a lot of the plate hanging down over the lower grille.

hmm my MY06 came with aftermarket ones the dealer installed and fits perfectly without overhang. Perhaps they used a mount or foam spacers or something. Need to have another looksy..

EUR003act

i drilled my holes slightly lower on the plate so that it would sit above the front grill... less restriction for cool soothing air on the radiator (and my intercooler :p jokes)

EuroDude

here's mine done by the dealer using an aftermarket plate holder, dunno if the bracket comes with the car stock or not. its an 06 but the bumper size is similar to 05, the plate overhangs about an inch..

Could you get me a contact to where I could buy one of those Eurodude? I have slimline plates similar to yours on a '05 euro.

I'm not too keen on chopping up my plate bracket.

The metal bracket? I have no idea, my dealer in Sydney installed it.
You can buy those holders (plastic cover and clips) at Auto shops such as AutoOne and SuperCheap, cant remember if they come with mounting brackets though..

I had the humungus holder for the euro plates i think but i got slimline plates and they were half teh size of the holder.
I thought of using the stock holes but wanted it raised a bit higher to clear the grill and didn't want to drill my plate so I made brackets to position the plate where I wanted, I wish I had the smaller holder so i could just trim it like the rest of you guys.

oh now you're just being racist. LOL

i think i read somewhere that changing plates colour/size cost ~$40. That's prob per a plate so 86 sounds right.

Plate Combinations Price
Standard size $99* a set for your car
Slimline 11.80* extra per plate
