View Full Version : HELP! CAI in a dc5r

hi guys.

I recently purchased a dc5r. Im planning on purchasing a Injen CAI.

After obseriving the engine bay, i realise that the battery is in the way. I just want to know what other DC5 owners with cai have done when installing. Whether it be relocating the battery or working around it. Is there any other barriers besides the battery?

Thanks

the injen cai runs under the battery down to the front bumper. you dont need to relocate the battery.

when installing it you need to remove the battery and drill off this metal plate where the battery sits. its all in the instructions that come with the injen cai.

also need to change the washer bottle around... but this comes with the kit.

if i can recall a metal tab on the battery tray gets in the way of the piping. i just bent it away.

you've also got to cut through some plastic down in the wheel well.
once again its all explained in the installation papers.

thanks for the suggestions guys. Is there any other intake systems i can look at besides Injen? i was looking at mugen and grouppem but they're a bit pricey.

I installed mine today, I didn't touch the battery, all I did was remove the front bumper and follow the instructions.

PS. my car sounds like a V8!

injen is worth the trouble :)
*this will problem start up another injen vs gruppem/mugen debate
luckily he's specifically asking about ease of installation, so a power debate would be off topic ;)

As mentioned by reckless you have to take off the small side part of the battery holder. If i remember it correctly all you need was a flat head/phillips, and basically a toolbox lol (size-10 mm in particular), something to cut the fender... the annoying thing was gettin the pipe to fit to the screw position on the fender perfectly. Just remember not to cut the fender too much as said on the instructions.

I own a DC5 and a VE SS and I have to say they are two cars that sound nothing alike. The K20 induction sounds more like a motorbike than anything else.

I had the Injen on my car before starting the rebuild. It took less than an hour to fit and instructions were quite simple. Obviously running J's Racing intake now.

I installed my Injen CAI christmas eve, started at 5:00pm finished at 8:00pm (- an hour for dinner) Hardest thing is trying not to scratch the Injen pipe when installing LOL

and OMG it sounds good when its on. Took my brother and dad for a drive and the whole street on christmas eve had the sound VTEC screaming.

man it sounds so much harder than fitting CAI on EP3 (ie. no need to replace water bottle and battery tray mod).

GL with the install.

Me and a friend going to install it today :)
Front bar is off already since my car is still in the shop so half the work is done but just wonder if i should cover the CAI with a plastic bag till the front bar goes on since i dont have a hydroshield yet..

Curious... The Injen Hydroshield is it really necessary or not really?
Im going to get it but i thought i should ask.

The hydroshield is Not necessity obviously. The material of it is sorta like the material of a umbrella.. i think if you sprayed water on it, it would repel.. just like a umbrella does. But i suppose it acts as an extra level of protection..

But as most people say.. if you submerge the pod in enough water.. i doubt the hydroshield can do anything in that situation.. its there to repel the water i think.

Just a sec... So you are driving around with out a front bar at the moment correct? (I don't see any problem with this, Nissan Boys do it all the time)

But while you don't have a front bar on the car you are thinking of putting a plastic bag OVER the filter element... is this correct.

Thats as smart as putting a plastic bag over your head because its raining outside.

From what i've read from this site (From people that are ACTUAL mechanics) the hydro sheild is a waste of money. If the car is going to get hydro lock, you must be in a fair bit of water, and the shild would be basically useless by that point.

If you're that worried about it
1) Don't drive it in the rain
2) Don't buy a Injen intake

Sorry my post is messed up man..
My car is in the panel shop but it's sitting outside, with melbournes ****ed up weather im going to put a plastic bag over it just incase it rains while the bar is off if you get me?
Knowing my panel beater after its pissing down rain, he'd probably start it up and if the pod is soaked after heavy down pour >.>

It's just until the front bar goes back on as my car is getting a respray done thats all.
Sorry if my post sounded wrong

I ain't worried about the rain, just worried while it's stationary with the front bar covering it up thats all man.
I'll drive through the rain and puddles without a problem, but not a flood lol
